Zarm is a villain in Captain Planet and the Planeteers. As Gaia's archenemy, Zarm comes into conflict numerous times with the Planeteers, and is basically the closest thing the show has to a main antagonist.
In the series' first two seasons, he was voiced by musician/actor Sting. In the third season, he was voiced by the late David Warner, who also portrayed Alpha in Men in Black: The Series, Herbert Landon in Spider-Man: The Animated Series, and MCP in Tron. In the fourth and fifth season, he was voiced by Malcolm McDowell, who also portrayed Kesslee in Tank Girl, Jorhan Stahl in Killzone, and Death in Castlevania (2017).
What Makes Him Pure Evil?[]
- He used to be a spirit of Earth alongside Gaia, but after his exile, he went to an alien planet and gave its inhabitants technological advances, resulting in them wiping themselves out.
- He constantly uses various methods of trying to destroy Earth:
- In "The Conqueror", he gives the Planeteers (except Ma-Ti, who sees through him) gauntlets that amplify their power, turns them against each other, and, in a bid to see who was more powerful, tells them to destroy a military base, but leaves them in the dark about the nuclear war that this would cause, and then attempts to destroy the base himself when he's found out.
- In "Summit to Save Earth", he and the Eco-Villains kidnap members of a summit, force Gaia into a sadistic choice, turns her mortal, traps her and the Planeteers in his ship for a decade while the Eco-Villains rule, torments her with the knowledge that the Earth will die when she does, and even steals the Planeteers' rings, causing Gaia to age rapidly.
- In "Scorched Earth", he possesses a dictator and tries to enact a "Scorched Earth" tactic, which involves burning the dictator's homeland (Zarm even brags about being behind several dictators in history).
- In "The Dream Machine", he disguises himself as the Dream Maker, causes a town's resources to dwindle, and attempts to coerce its people to attack another town.
- In "Future Shock", he visits an alternate timeline, informs the descendants of some of the Eco-Villains of their timeline's erasure, has them try to avert this by eliminating the threat to their timeline, and tries to kill a girl upon realizing she is the threat.
- In "In Zarm's Way", he makes a bet with Gaia where she would work for him if she loses, and then tries to cheat by making two children kill each other.
- He believes in the "might makes right" philosophy and sees love as a weakness, but is still aware of its concept and not above exploiting it.
- His lack of redeeming qualities is made clear by the fact that he was unaffected by Ma-Ti's Heart Ring (which usually brings out the greatest compassion in an individual).
- He clearly has moral agency, seeing as he was exiled.
- The effects of his actions reach farther than those of most of his fellow villains in the show.
