HEY, CHEONG-SAN!
~ Gwi-nam's famous quote, swearing vengeance on Cheong-san for gouging out his eye.
I gave them serotonin injections for a week, but it had no effect whatsoever. The moment an antivirus enters the body, the virus mutates and stops attacking its target. The only explanation is that the cells learn and evolve. If this virus... manages to learn human consciousness... a new species of humankind could be born.
~ Lee Byeong-chan explaining the zombie hybrids as Yoon Gwi-nam has become one.

Yoon Gwi-nam is the main antagonist of the first season of the K-horror series All Of Us Are Dead. He is a sadistic bully at Hyosan High, and when he gotten eaten by zombies and turned into a hybrid half-bie, he wanted to kill Cheong-san and gouge his eye for injuring his eye.

He was portrayed by Yoo In-soo and voiced by Caleb Yen in the English dub.

What Makes Him Pure Evil?[]

  • Even before the zombie apocalypse, Gwi-nam was still a bully who sexually and physically abused people with his clique.
  • Abused Beyong-chan's son with his clique and even pushed him to the point of attempting suicide, which indirectly causes the events of the series.
  • Violently beat Beyong-chan's son on the roof, causing him to become a zombie and eventually infect his own mother, although to be fair, Gwi-nam didn't intend or know that he would become a zombie and was legitimately horrified after he fell of the roof but it's debatable if this horror was remorse at what he'd done or simple cowardice of him getting in trouble.
  • Forcibly stripped Eun-Ji and filmed her topless. He also planned to post it online to humiliate her unless Kim Cheol-soo paid him the money. This lead to her nearly killing herself.
  • When the outbreak reached the cafeteria, he cowardly shoved three people into the zombies, including a girl because he felt she made too much noise (even though she stopped making noise), a boy for being too scared to get a knife for him and a lunch lady who was offering to help him.
  • He tied up the principal and when being confronted by Cheong-san, slit his throat in cold blood. While the principal was a flawed man, he didn't deserve to die.
  • Chased Cheong-san around the zombie infested school after he filmed him killing the principal, wanting to kill him to get the phone back.
  • Shoved a random kid off a book shelf for being in the way into zombies.
  • Attempted to strangle Cheong-san for the phone, leading to him getting bitten by zombies and his eye split open.
  • After becoming a hybrid Half-Bie, grew into a God Complex, stating that he is in 'heaven', and wanting to murder Cheong-san for revenge.
  • He abused other zombies for little reasons such as being annoyed even though they posed no threat to him.
  • While he did save Su-hyeok's life, this was only so he could tell him where Cheong-san is and once he refused, he tried to kill him, leading to him biting Nam-ra and turning her into a hybrid. This lead to her almost killing her friends several times.
  • When meeting Son Myung-hwan, who was the leader of the bully clique, he snapped his arm and fed him to zombies. This also makes him drop his only redeeming quality, as he states that he doesn't care about him now before murdering him (though to be fair, Myung-hwan did mistreat and abuse Gwi-nam and arguably deserved it).
  • Attacked the group at the staircase and tried to kill Su-hyeok and Cheong-san.
  • Brutally killed Na-yeon by devouring her as she was about to bring food to the other survivors. Although she was a murderer, he killed her for food and sadistic amusement (he didn't need to question her as he already knew where Cheong-san was) and she didn't deserve to die so horribly just when she was looking for a chance to redeem herself.
  • Ambushed the group at the rooftop, was possibly about to kill On-jo and attempted to gouge Cheong-san's eye out as he knocks around and injured the group and attempted to convince Nam-ra into joining him. When the others tried to defend Cheong-san, he tried to kill all of them too.
  • Bitten Min-Jae when he gotten separated from the group. Even though he initially planned to let him go, he bit him for no reason other than having the smell of the other survivors on him.
  • Kicked a zombified Oh Joon-Young out of pure spite due to him having previously helped the other survivors.
  • Chased down the group at the scaffolding and proceeded to bite Cheong-san in the arm, torturing him in front of his friends, which later leads to him sacrificing himself.
  • While he could have killed the rest of the group, he willingly goes after Cheong-san for revenge and after a fight, gouges out his eye. While he claims he'll let him live if he runs away, the sadistic and mocking tone he says it indicates he was either lying or doing it just to taunt him. This leads to him and Cheong-san still being in the building when the military bombed it, which either killed or seriously injured the two of them.
  • While he did seem affected when Cheong-san insulted him about being nothing more than a monster, even crying, he drops any chances of changing or remorse by attacking him.
  • Overall, despite his insecurity, it's never presented sympathetically and he is always shown as a entitled monster, and while the zombie infection might have made him worse, he willingly embraced it instead of trying to fight it like Nam-ra.
    • Despite his insecurity, he still bullied insecure students, making him a hypocrite.

Trivia[]

  • He is the only Pure Evil in All Of Us Are Dead. As of now, only his drama version is counted, and since his webtoon counterpart is more Vile than his Drama counterpart, it is highly likely that his Webtoon version counted Pure Evil like his Drama counterpart.
  • Many believe Cheong-san was saving Gwi-nam from the flames in the final scene to end the cycle of bullying and since Gwi-nam already got his revenge, he will return in season 2 working together with Cheong-san (and possibly Nam-ra too) and maybe even get a redemption arc. If this happens, it will strip Gwi-nam of his Pure Evil status, unless he teams up with Cheong-San for pragmatic reasons. However, all of this still remains unconfirmed.
