“ | I'm sure. A pitty, Kawada...You had such a promise. On the bright side, you did manage to strike a blow against the program. Thanks to this little debacle, this year's program's been null and void. All those lovely boys and girls dead. And for what? Abso-f*cking-lutely nothing. Breaks one's heart just thinking about such a tragic waste of young lives... | „ |

~ Yonemi Kamon's last words before getting stabbed in the throat by Shogo with a pencil. |
Yonemi Kamon is the overarching antagonist in the manga version of Battle Royale. He is the administrator of the "program" in which he has a group of students kidnapped and forced to kill each other for his entertainment, he also puts bets on the students' lives and their chances to win.
What Makes Him Pure Evil?[]
- Is the one to oversee the Battle Royale program, which has a class of students kidnapped so they could kill each other until there is only one left, every year. This makes Kamon indirectly responsible for all the deaths caused by the players in the games. He also films the deaths and sells it to the public for money.
- This has been going on for at least more than half of a decade, as Shuya saw in the news the winner of the program of that year who went insane and was heavily mutilated when he was just a child in the orphanage, and Shuya would have been at least 9 years-old at the time.
- He had Shogo's father killed when he tried to go against Shogo joining the program, thus leaving Shogo an orphan after the end of his program.
- He forced the people of an entire island to leave their homes in order to make the program in there with the kidnapped Class 9-B.
- Had Class 9-B kidnapped so they could kill each other for the program of that year.
- He went to the orphanage where Shuya and Yoshitoki lived to talk to Ms. Ryoko about them joining the program, which infuriated her, and she told them to bring them back. Calling her reaction "typical", he raped her and ordered her soldiers to beat up and kill her co-worker and friend Hayashida, with him even mentioning that he actualy whished that she was gangraped instead of just being him doing the act because of how much he enjoyed that moment.
- What makes this worse is the fact that Ms. Ryoko promised Shuya and Yoshitoki when they were children that she would never allow them to join the program; thus, Kamon was also taunting her over that promise being now meaningless.
- After introducing himself to Class 9-B, he revealed that he had the teacher of the class killed and then showed them his decomposed body to break them psychologically, even taunting Noriko in particular, who was the most optimistic student in the class.
- When a student asked Kamon if he could leave the program due to his father being a high-ranking official, Kamon told him that he wouldn't because he wanted equality between students, which psychologically broke him until he was in tears and felt like he needed to sit down.
- While Kamon speaks of equality among students, he is nothing more than a hypocrite since he treats students who killed more with respect and jokes about the deaths of those who either die or don't kill anyone and still have hope in them, proving he was only using this as an excuse to not allow the student to leave and simply break him more with it.
- He taunted Shuya and Yoshitoki over the fact that he raped Ms. Ryoko, provoking the latter into trying to kill Kamon and then arrogantly saying that he couldn't kill him because he was part of the government, and then asked if he thought Ms. Ryoko ever liked Yoshitoki and that she was waiting to have sex with him, further taunting him as a result.
- After Yoshitoki made it clear he wanted to kill him, Kamon shot him in the face, disfiguring him in the process.
- When Noriko tried to save Yoshitoki from being killed, Kamon shot her in the leg, and after she started begging him to save Yoshitoki, Kamon decided to "finish what he started" and shoot Yoshitoki to death.
- He tried to kill Shuya when he tried to attack him for everything he did against the people he loved before Mimura kicked him in order to save his life.
- He nearly killed Noriko before Mimura stopped him by convincing him that she could be useful to the program, and after doing so, Kamon told Shuya, Noriko, and Mimura to get back on their "f*cking seats".
- When he heard Fumiyo whispering during his presentation, Kamon threw a knife at her head, killing her. This would later be the main reason why Seto helped Mimura create a bomb so they could destroy the school and kill Kamon and his soldiers.
- He faked being Megumi's father on a phone call in order to give her hope that not everything in the program wasn't completely hopeless, only for him to destroy it by revealing that it was Kamon and asking her to say something he could masturbate to, psychologically breaking her due to this.
- Throughout the manga, he jokes about the deaths of the students by announcing the students who have died every 12 hours simply for fun, such as joking about Yumiko and Yukiko being gunned down by Kazuo, saying it's "two for the price of one," or when he jokes about Hiroki Sugimura's meaningless sacrifice to try to save Kayoko by saying they were acting like Romeo and Juliet and saying that Kayoko's death was a loss of a pair of breasts.
- It's revealed by Kamon that he filmed Mitsuko Souma taking a bath with the intent of selling it as pornography.
- When Shogo faked killing Shuya and Noriko in order to save their lives and Shogo was announced as the winner, Kamon had him go to a boat so he could tell him in private that he found out about his plan and knew that Noriko and Shuya were still alive and sent a helicopter to the island to release poisonous gas to kill them, believing they were still on the island. He then attempted to kill Shigo before he heard gunshots and distracted him for a moment, giving Shogo the chance to kill him.
- Despite treating his soldiers well at times and being friendly to them on a few occasions, it's clearly for pragmatic reasons, and he is also shown to be abusive towards them, as he threw a book at one of them when they failed to find out how Mimura and Seto were able to create a bomb that nearly killed him and destroyed the school he was in.
- While he does respect Kazuo, calling him Young Master Kiriyama and even complimenting him for his kills, this respect comes from the fact that Kazuo is mentally and figuratively a killing machine that had excellent fighting skills and was able to get an extremely high kill count in such a short period of time, so this respect comes from him being a cold-hearted killer rather than actual care, and he put a bet of 20,000 yen because he believed he was going to win due to his sheer ruthlessness. He also doesn't mourn him, only being sad that he lost a ton of money on Kazuo.
- His goofy facade does nothing to distract his actions, as the manga does absolutely nothing to downplay the cruelty made in the program and its graphic nature.
Trivia[]
- He is one of the two Battle Royale villains to be Pure Evil, alongside the Live-Action version of Kazuo Kiriyama. He is also the only Pure Evil to come from the manga.
