Let this be a learning experience, gentlemen. If you resist, we will kill you and the man next to you. Now move out of here in an orderly fashion. NOW!
~ William Strannix.
There's a difference, my man. You have faith. I don't.
~ Strannix's last words to Ryback.

William "Bill" Strannix is the main antagonist of the 1992 political action thriller film Under Siege.

He is a terrorist leader and former CIA operative who intends to sell two Tomahawk missiles to the black market by hijacking the USS Missouri ship which would in the future would cause a World War III. He knew Casey Ryback back in another place.

He was portrayed by Tommy Lee Jones, who also portrayed Robert Dewey in Jason Bourne.

What Makes Him Pure Evil?[]

  • Even as a CIA operative in taking down or taking over ships, Strannix tried to go rogue with his position and killed and mutilated two CIA agents sent to kill him.
  • Hiding under the guise of a rock musician, Strannix sneaks onto the USS Missouri and takes over the battleship with his commandos, wrathfully killing several of the crew, including having Commander Krill kill Captain Adams, and imprisoning the rest below the decks.
  • He coldly shoots a random hostage to death in order to send a message to the rest of the crew that anyone who resists will be shot along with the man next to him.
  • When a fighter jet tries to investigate the takeover, Strannix shoots it down. He also blows up a satellite station.
  • When it is revealed Private Nash is still in an unsecured area, Strannix sends mercenaries to eliminate Nash & Ryback, succeeding in killing the former.
  • Along with Krill, Strannix attempts to drown the hundreds of crew members below the decks to try and get Ryback to kill himself in an attempt to save them.
  • In total, his plan is to steal the ship's nuclear Tomahawk missiles and sell them on the black market by putting them on Strannix's stolen North Korean submarine.
  • Strannix then has his crew blow up a helicopter carrying dozens of Navy SEAL rescue members with an RPG.
  • Upon the tomahawks and the stolen submarine being sunk by Ryback and his comrades, Strannix launches two nuclear Tomahawks towards Hawaii in an attempt to nuke the state and eliminate any Pearl Harbor tracking systems to cover his escape.
  • He then fights Ryback and attempts to kill him in one last act of spite.
  • While Strannix has many comedic moments, he is still taken as a very serious threat.
  • While Strannix acts affable with his colleagues, he is also quick to get angry or start yelling at them when they make even honest mistakes, and shows no care for their deaths, including Daumer's or Krill's. As for the rest of his men, when he sees a room of their dead bodies, courtesy of Ryback, Strannix gets mad at Daumer for not hiring Ryback.
  • While Strannix has a backstory of almost being assassinated by his own employers after they canceled one of his operations as he was overwhelmed and stressed by his job, this is nowhere near an excuse for killing dozens of people and attempting to nuke a state and potentially cause WWIII, as Ryback points out to Strannix.
  • While the sequel's villain, Travis Dane, kills thousands more people, Strannix, along with Krill, has a way higher attempted body count, as while Dane attempted to nuke Washington D.C, Strannix attempted to nuke Hawaii.

Trivia[]

  • This is the first Pure Evil character that Tommy Lee Jones has portrayed.
