Tenebrae, also known as Darth Vitiate, The Sith Emperor, Valkorion, Emperor Vitiate, and possibly hundreds of other aliases, is the main antagonist of the Star Wars Old Republic era. Due to his influence over the entire galactic history, he could be considered one of the two main antagonists of the Star Wars Legends continuity as a whole (alongside Emperor Palpatine).
As Tenebrae/Lord Vitiate, he is voiced by Anthony Skordi, Darth Vitiate is voiced by Doug Bradley, and Valkorion is voiced by Darin De Paul, who also voiced Quan Chi in Mortal Kombat Legends and Luxaar in Xenoblade Chronicles X.
What Makes Him Pure Evil?[]
- While a lot of his heinous actions were motivated by a somewhat understandable fear of death and desire to become immortal, it's not at all redeeming since he thinks he is the only person who deserves immortality and doesn't care if he has to murder the entire galaxy to obtain it.
- At the young age of 6, Vitiate killed his stepfather by snapping his neck and then tortured his own mother to death. Though his stepfather did attack his mother and the latter did have an affair with Lord Dramath, it doesn't justify such actions.
- After killing his parents, he then went on a brutal rampage, slaughtering countless inhabitants on his homeworld Medriaas.
- At the age of 13, he had already conquered his entire homeworld on his own and forced those who were strong enough to serve him.
- Tricked 8,000 Sith Lords into participating in the ritual of Nathema, which resulted in their deaths, with all of their life forces being consumed by him.
- While the Sith are known to crave and respect power and strength and care little about how it is obtained, even at the cost of peoples and worlds, none of them have or will ever go as far as he did, as the ritual of Nathema not only resulted in the complete omnicide of the planet's population but also drained it of it's force energy, turning it into a barren, lifeless husk of a planet devoid of the force entirely.
- After the ritual of Nathema, Vitiate had gone to great lengths to hide his ruined homeworld from the Sith, as they would be disgusted by the atrocity he committed, as it was seen as abomination of the force, and he had lied to them that the Jedi had destroyed Nathema.
- However, whenever his subordinates found Nathema, they would try to destroy him, as they viewed him as a madman and a monster who sacrificed more of his fellow Sith in a similar ritual to extend his life again.
- Extended his lifespan by transferring his consciousness to other hosts.
- He imprisoned Ak'ghal Usar for millennia in a cave in Yavin Four.
- Manipulated the Republic and Mandalorians into going to war for 16 years, resulting in many deaths and destruction.
- Turned Revan and Malak to the dark side, resulting in them establishing their own Sith Empire and starting the Jedi Civil War, which killed multiple populations.
- After Revan's mind was wiped, he went to the Unknown Regions to search for answers before Vitiate captured him and tortured him for 300 years, causing Revan's mind to split into two.
- Centuries later, he would start another war against Coruscant, which would take the lives of multiple Jedi and civilians, and even the Chancellor of the Republic at that time.
- He and the Dark Council offered the Republic to sign a peace treaty. But the offer quickly turned into a deal with the devil when the Empire seized Coruscant and ransomed the planet for the treaty.
- In exchange for the planet's freedom, the Republic had to give up many of its planets to the Empire and declare the Sith the war's victor.
- Later, Vitiate would go to Zakuul to start a new empire and place his consciousness into a new body, building a massive fleet strong enough to reign havoc on multiple planets.
- Now known as Valkorion, he would start his own family. Though Valkorion genuinely loved his wife Senya at first, this all subverted when his sons were born, and afterwards he wasn’t good to his family at all, as he constantly ignored his sons Arcann and Thexan and even had his daughter Vaylin imprisoned and tortured.
- While he regretted leaving Senya, his wife, due to their indifferences, and having a twisted sense of respect for her after some time, this all changed and subverted once he was reborn through a force plague, as he showed disgust and claimed he was even disgusted by the idea that he had a family in the first place.
- And even before his return to his original Tenebrae persona, Valkorion's regret over leaving Senya comes off as him having discarded a cherished plaything rather than a genuine loved one. This is supported by the fact that, when cornered, Vitiate drops his façade and declares that all of them before being "graced with [his] presence" were nothing but "motes of filth," showing his complete disregard for their value compared to his own, something he doubles down on immediately after by claiming that "a god has no family." It is even implied by his Tenebrae persona later that, while initially showing disdain for "distractions" such as a family, he later understood his previous self's appeal in having powerful Force users with emotional scars who were "easy to manipulate," showing nothing but sadism and narcissism towards the family his previous self built.
- After he fled from the reawakened Darth Revan, Vitiate's spirit went to Ziost and took control of the entire planet via mass possession, then absorbed/corrupted all life that was there, killing countless people once again.
- As the war continued, Valkorion would wipe out anyone who stood in his way, as countless fleets of Jedi and Sith would fall before him.
- Murdered his former ally Darth Marr in a duel.
- His spirit would soon enter the Outlander, and while he didn’t take over their bodies, he would bond in the Force with them. Five years later, after finally being freed, Valkorion would guide the Outlander to defeating his son, who had claimed his throne, by assembling both the Sith and Jedi to fight him.
- He killed his daughter, Vaylin, so he could consume her intense power and soul.
- Soon, Vitiate would try to take over the Outlander’s mind.
- While Vitiate was finally killed by the Outlander (for which he completely deserved it for all his horrible, cruel, and vile actions), his influence would remain for many centuries, even inspiring some other Sith to have an interest in becoming immortal themselves. This included Darth Plagueis, the master of Darth Sidious.
- He was so much of a Dark Side user that some may have begun to question if the Dark Side was the better path, since Vitiate was in it all for himself and was seen as a horrible example of that being the case, as many Dark Siders saw him going too far and that he caused more harm than good. This also became apparent in his last moments, where a large cast of characters, including the Sith, were teamed up against him in a positive, heroic manner.
