What makes him Pure Evil?[]
- He tortured and executed the people that he called "traitors".
- He was confirmed to have executed at least one other person, Count Palmieri, whose execution Scarpia pretended was fake only for it to be real.
- He lied to Floria Tosca that Mario Cavaradossi and Marchesa Attavanti, the sister of Cesare Angelotti whom Mario protected from Scarpia, had an affair so that he could use Tosca to capture Cesare and Mario.
- He forced Tosca to hear Mario's screams and forced her to betray Cesare Angelotti, who would commit suicide to avoid being executed.
- He promised Tosca he would release Cavaradossi from being executed only if she came his lover, and tried to rape her before she killed him.
- After Scarpia's death, Floria Tosca thought that Mario would be released, but she realized that the execution was real, causing her to end her life to avoid being captured by the police for Scarpia's death.
Trivia[]
- He is thus far one of the few operatic villains that is considered to be Pure Evil, alongside Barnaba from Amilcare Ponchielli's La Gioconda and Iago, who is featured Gioachino Rossini's version and Giuseppe Verdi's version of Othello, both being operatic adaptations based on the Shakespearean play of the same name.
- Both Scarpia and Iago are also Pure Evil villains in their original source works.
