Darkfear, also known as Victor Black, is the main antagonist of the Nova Fides duology, serving as one of the two overarching antagonists (alongside Patrick Jäger) of Fear the Night, and the main antagonist of Blood Moon.
He is a ruthless scientist who has kidnapped and experimented on many people and animals, and has no qualms about killing others. In actuality, however, he is actually an ancient dragon named Darkfear, who wants to conquer the Earth and wipe out all life.
What makes him pure evil?[]
Past:[]
- He Destroys the original kingdom of Nova Fides hundreds of years prior to the events of the story, killing hundreds of people in the process (including the head of the guard). In the process, he also allows the werewolves to run rampant and kill peoples’ livestock.
- He created DNA based serums, which are the true cause of lycanthropy, causing people to suffer horrific and painful transformations every full moon. Without this, werebeasts wouldn’t have existed on Nova Fides, meaning the events of the duology Would never have happened. He also falsifies several scientific papers to make lycanthropy seem like a disease or genetic trait.
- Kidnaped a young chupacabra cub, killed its family, and conducted horrific experiments on it, transforming it into the notorious outlaw Bethany Carter.
- Kills several people and animals and turns them into walking corpses as part of his experiments so he can use them as weapons.
Fear the Night:[]
- Manipulates Theodore Jäger into hunting down werebeasts, using Theodore's own hatred of them to his advantage. It is later revealed that he set up Natalia’s death in order to get Theodore to have a hatred of werebeasts by manipulating Bethany Carter into killing her.
- Threatens to kill Theodore after he failed him too many times, only letting him live after he promises not to fail him again
- Breaks free of his restraints (showing he was merely pretendng to be imprisoned), and terrorises the newly rebuilt city of Nova Fides
- Uses Theodore as a puppet king while he works behind the scenes controlling the people of Nova Fides
Blood Moon:[]
- Manipulates Jonathan and his friends into hunting down Bethany while disguising himself as Jonathan's father by framing her as the culprit of a series of animal attacks.
- Tries to get the entire populace of Nova Fides to side with him by convincing them that Jonathan Franklin is the villain.
- He captures several animals and has them imprisoned in his lab, where he can conduct cruel experiments on them
- Attempts to show a live chupacabra at a zoo, showing he did not kill them all, and that their extinction had been faked.
- Once his cover is blown, he tries to kill Frederick Smith during a fight at the local zoo
- He shows no care for those who work for him, being willing to kill them if they no longer serve any use to him.
- Tricks Catherine Jager into thinking her sister (Natalia) had been killed by werebeasts, when he has actually manipulated Bethany into doing it.
- Kills several livestock animals and claims they're chupacabra kills in order to frame Bethany Carter
- In his dragon form, he devours Catherine after trying to do the same to Bethany, due to Catherine intervening, and shows no care when doing so, making her suffer a long, painful fate of being digested alive.
- Curses several people (including Simon Jones) to age to death.
- Revives Patrick Jäger in order to use him as a pawn, only to kill him again afterwards when the latter starts to turn against him.
- He drains an innocent civilian of their life source, killing them in a slow and painful manner.
- Fakes his death by falling into lava, only to re-emerge later on and kill several people via his new fire-based abilities, as well as via eating them in his dragon form
- Goads Bethany into transforming into her default chupacabra form and kill everyone around her to show them how dangerous she is.
- Forcibly transformers Jonathan into a mindless dragon, and allows Jonathan to kill everyone in the palace.
- He treats other living creatures (including humans) as mere playthings to be used and disposed as he wants, and shows sadistic pleasure when doing so.
- Tries to kill Bethany on top of the roof of a building during a fight.
