Your worst nightmare. I'm ignorance. I'm fear. I'm hate.
~ Verminous Skumm

Verminous Skumm is one of the recurring villains of the Captain Planet and the Planeteers series.

He is a large, humanoid, mutant rat who is determined to take over the Earth through urban blight, poor sanitation, drug abuse and disease.

In Season 1, he was voiced by Jeff Goldblum, who also played Mister Frost in the 1990 film of the same name. From seasons 2 to 6, he was voiced by Maurice LaMarche, who also voiced Duke Nukem in seasons 3 to 6 of Captain Planet, as well as Calendar Man in the Batman: Arkham video game series.

What Makes Him Pure Evil?[]

  • He constantly tries to destroy the world.
  • In "Rain of Terror", he creates a cloud of acid rain to destroy a city.
  • In "Skumm Lord", Skumm pollutes the Amazonian rainforest's water supply with a chemical disease called "Rat Rot", which would turn people into mutated rat slaves if they drink the water. With his end goal being to destroy the civilized world and enslave the remainder to rule as their king. Three of the Planeteers (Wheeler, Linka and Gi) manage to drink the water.
  • In "Don't Drink the Water", he and the other Eco-Villains contaminate a city's water so they can sell clean water at exorbitant prices.
  • In "Mission to Save Earth", he and the other Eco-Villains steal the Planeteers' rings and leave them stranded on an island.
  • In "Mind Pollution", Skumm goes to Washington, DC and peddles a mind-altering drug called Bliss that temporarily puts people in a euphoric state but makes them addicted. He first offers the drug to Linka's cousin Boris. Later on, Boris gets her addicted to the drug, then he dies of an overdose, making Skumm the only villain with an onscreen bodycount.
  • In "The Big Clam-Up", he goes to San Francisco and sells tainted seafood, causing mass food poisoning.
  • In "Trouble on the Half Shell", he and Hoggish Greedly are stranded on the Galapagos Islands and introduce rats, which begin to eat tortoise eggs.
  • In "Hate Canal", Skumm tries to flood Venice with oversized, carnivorous rats.
  • In Utopia", he and Dr. Blight take over the world. They kidnap four of the Planeteers and brainwash them into becoming street punks. It's up to Kwame, who was away watching B-movies, to save his teammates.
  • In "A Formula for Hate", Skumm harasses an HIV-positive teenager named Todd by spreading malicious rumors about HIV, for no other reason than his own amusement.
  • In "If It's Doomsday, This Must Be Belfast", he and Duke Nukem plant nuclear bombs in war-torn regions, such as Jerusalem Mount in Israel, the Northern Ireland and apartheid South Africa.
  • In "Talkin' Trash", Skumm goes to New York City and recruits Wheeler's old friends into his gang.
  • In "Bug Off", he creates mutated boll weevils that become stronger when exposed to pesticides.
  • In "Nothing's Sacred", he steals a South American artifact from a private collector.
  • In "Who's Running the Show?", he and the other Eco-Villains hijack a TV station by broadcasting pollution-supporting propaganda.
  • Though nowhere near as powerful as Zarm, he stands out with his own resources.
  • Whereas most of the other villains focus on harming the environment, Skumm focuses more on hurting people, making him perhaps the Planeteers' darkest adversary.
