NOTE: This page is only about his Pre-Crisis and Post-Crisis incarnations, as the New 52 incarnation of Vandal Savage was not voted Pure Evil, and thus only the Pre/Post-Crisis version of Vandal Savage's info should be put here.

Send me your superheroes from past, present or future. I'll kill all of them.
~ Savage while threatening the nations of the world.
I am not a caveman. I am a visionary. A veteran and orchestrator of every significant war mankind has ever had. And I will continue to shape the world for the war of tomorrow. My tomorrow.
~ Savage while trying to kill Wildcat and his son.

Vandar Adg, better known as Vandal Savage, is one of the main antagonists in DC Comics. He is the arch-nemesis of Immortal Man, Resurrection Man, Green Lantern (Alan Scott), and Flash (Wally West). He also appears as an archenemy of the Justice League, the Justice Society, and the Teen Titans as a whole.

Savage is immortal and inextinguishable, so he has plagued the Earth with crime and violence since before the beginning of recorded human history. He is a capable tactician with immense technological prowess and one of DC's most persistent villains, having fought hundreds of heroes throughout history. He is the main antagonist of the Justice Society of America series and one of the main antagonists in the Justice League franchise, alongside Darkseid and Anti-Monitor.

What Makes Him Pure Evil?[]

  • Throughout history, he was several famous evil men, such as Khafre, Cheops (although Hawkman believes he's lying there), Alexander the Great, Julius Caesar (although he often claims to have killed Caesar instead), Genghis Khan, Blackbeard, Vlad the Impaler, and Jack the Ripper. He also aided numerous dictators such as Erik the Red, William the Conqueror, Napoleon, Otto von Bismarck, Adolf Hitler, Ra's al Ghul, and even personally created the Illuminati to destroy Atlantis in the B.C. era.
  • He's an abusive father whose millions of descendants are kidnapped and then used as unwilling organ donors in case his body ever gets hurt too badly. Otherwise, he admits to having sired hundreds of children but never changed a diaper, and once he even killed a daughter's pet cat in front of her with a knife.
    • His treatment of his daughter Scandal is especially cruel as well, and whatever "kindness" he shows towards her is clearly just a manipulation tactic. On her 9th birthday, she was forced to run through a gauntlet of men beating her under the threat of Vandal killing her mother, although the mother had already been dead for six years at that point. As an adult, Vandal tries to have Scandal raped by Dr. Psycho in order to produce a grandson (despite Scandal being a lesbian), threatening to kill all of her friends in the Secret Six if she doesn't comply.
  • According to Lex Luthor, archaeological evidence suggests that Savage invented cannibalism. He even ate his own clone for survival at one point.
  • He's been raping women since his caveman days, as shown with the Bear Tribe in Final Crisis. Other instances include the women from Scandal's mother's village in Brazil and an underling who fails to capture Arsenal in that one miniseries.
  • He tries to replace New York's heroin trade with Velocity 9, a highly addictive substance that he created to burn out the user's body until dead, hoping to seize control of the financial community as well. One unfortunate lawyer/stockbroker had already bought some of the product, losing his right hand when robbed by thugs.
  • He kidnaps a baby girl and buries her alive in Barry Allen's boobytrapped grave, hoping to kill Wally West that way.
  • Invades Karna with an army of elementals with the help from Ahk-Ton, planning to takeover Egypt and the rest of Africa. Both of them plan to not only raze Egypt to the ground but continue to do so with the rest of the continent in their bloody conquest.
  • He tries to destroy Earth with a moon-sized asteroid, intending to "restart" civilization in a similar manner to what happened with the dinosaurs.
  • He orchestrates cultural genocide via the Fourth Reich, brutally slaughtering various members and families of the Justice Society of America with the intent of wiping out all of their bloodlines so nobody can continue their legacy and thus stand in the way of Savage's goal for world dominance. These are the results:
    • Mr. America (Trey Thompson): His wife, two preteen sons, younger brother, and sister-in-law were all poisoned by Catalyst. He is later killed by Savage himself.
    • Commander Steel (Hank Heywood Sr.): His entire family gets brutalized by the Reich during a reunion at the park, starting with the women and children. The only survivors were his grandson, Nate, and a few other children.
    • General Glory (Donovan Wallace): He was dismembered at his own wedding, along with everyone in attendance.
    • Minute-Man (Jack Burton): The night following the deaths of the Wallace family, someone crept into his home and slit not only his throat but also that of his children and grandchildren.
  • He tries to nuke Brussels, Singapore, Metropolis, and Washington, D.C. Thanks to Solaris infecting the computer system and causing a guidance failure, the Washington nuke hits Montevideo, Uruguay, instead, killing approximately 1,378,705 people.
    • Afterwards, Savage declares war on the nations of the world and attempts to cause the fall of human civilization, targeting the oil fields of the Middle East in an attempt to ignite them with WW2 blitz engines.
  • Although he was a brief parental substitute and seemed to genuinely care for Raymond Terrill in Volume 2 of The Ray (giving him a good job and words of encouragement, saving his life once, and even offering his own soul to the devil for his safety), this was just a one-time thing that's never brought up again in later comics where Savage tries to destroy the world and thus every living being populating it, which would realistically include Ray.
  • Overall, he's easily the most heinous, depraved, and malevolent human being in the entire DC franchise since he practically invented evil, and there's not one crime he isn't willing to commit so long as it benefits himself in some way or another. Even Lex Luthor of all people calls him a monster to his face, and he's certainly not wrong.

Trivia[]

  • So far, this is one of two versions of Vandal Savage to be Pure Evil, alongside his Justice League: Doom incarnation.
  • His New 52 incarnation doesn't qualify as Pure Evil since 2013's Forever Evil storyline shows him trying but failing to open Pandora's Box, which can only be done by someone whose heart is 100% good or evil (hence why Superman did it), indicating that Savage still has something of a conscience within him. Therefore, he's only PE in the Pre and Post-Crisis eras.
