“ | Septimius Severus: Are you a man or a God? Van Kleiss: I find both labels rather limiting. Now you are going to give me everything I require, starting with a quiet place to work. I, in return, shall ensure the growth and security of your reign as emperor. You may call me Van Kleiss. |

What Makes Him Pure Evil?[]
- Murders Rex's parents by locking them inside the nanite reactor after the three of them learned about his and Consortium's desire to acquire the Meta Nanites.
- Whenever one of his soldiers failed him, Van Kleiss would punish them by draining their nanites and placing their petrified bodies in his garden.
- When first talking to Rex in Abysus, he feigns kindness and promises to tell Rex about his past, but when they're alone, he attempts to drain Rex of his nanites.
- Slaughters the Providence soldiers who arrived in Abysus to rescue Rex with Agent Six being the only survivor.
- Had the Pack kidnap a young girl named Sarah Meechum in order to force her father, Peter Meechum and one of his former colleagues, to work with him in creating a zombie army in New York.
- Attempts to use Circe as a way to coerce Rex into joining him, playing on her emotions and insecurities.
- Lies to the UN about wanting to establish peaceful relations with them, revealing his real plan to force the world to submit to him by holding the envoys of the UN and using the soil from Abysus to strengthen himself.
- When one of his soldiers, Jungle Cat, accidentally damaged his master's suit which had provided him with a constant supply of nanites, Van Kleiss mercilessly punishes Jungle Cat by draining him of his nanites, in spite of Jungle Cat's intense loyalty to Van Kleiss.
- When revived by Rex in order to absorb the unstable nanites that are destroying Abysus, Van Kleiss threatens to stop unless Rex submits to him.
- After attacking Providence and stealing Rex's nanites, he uses his new powers to turn many soldiers into EVO's and nearly destroys Providence.
- Nearly turning Rex's best friend, Noah, into an incurable EVO.
- To secure an alliance with NoFace, another powerful EVO with an army at his command, he allows NoFace to savagely beat Rex. When Circe tries to object and reminds Van Kleiss that he needs Rex alive, Van Kleiss coldly smiles and says while he needs his body alive, his mind is another matter, demonstrating his desire to psychologically break Rex in order to make him submit to his will and turn him into another pawn.
- Attempts to steal the Molecular Destabilizer from Quarry, an item to destroy atoms, and when the weapon is destroyed, he punishes Quarry by destroying his body.
- Uses and experiments on Breach to enhance her powers and allow her to open portals through time, with his experiments causing her great pain, something Van Kleiss completely disregarded.
- Assists Black Knight in creating a new Nanite Reactor for both her and the Consortium to gain god-like powers through the Meta-Nanites.
- Betrays Black Knight and the Consortium, revealing that he only faked his insanity in order to fool them and take the power of the Meta-Nanites for himself.
- Attempts to steal the power of all five Meta-Nanites to rule over the world as an omnipotent god.
- While there are many times where Van Kleiss attempts to have Rex join him, he only views Rex as a tool and merely wanted to use him in order to obtain one of the Meta Nanites stored in Abysus.
- He claims he is creating a new, better world for EVO's, but this is merely his excuse to grab power and rule over the world with his Nanites, showing no loyalty to anyone but himself and killing any of his soldiers who fail him with no remorse.
- Though he has some comedic moments, they ultimately do not detract from his heinousness, and he's taken fully serious in-universe.
