“ | For those of you still living under the illusion that you will have freedom, know this: My armies have exterminated the last pockets of resistance and I now control the entire planet. The traitorous Utrom scientists I have captured are completing a colossal transmat device. With it, I will send forth my armies and enslave the stars, one world after another. There is no hope. There is only the Shredder. | „ |
~ The Utrom Shredder's voice-over introduction in "Same As It Never Was" |
Ch'rell, or more known as the Utrom Shredder, is the main antagonist of the 2003 Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles series Season 3 episode "Same As It Never Was".
He is a future version of Ch'rell who succeeded in his plans in the Season 3 finale and shows how grim the future will be. He is arguably even more vile than his original counterpart before the film finale Turtles Forever.
Like his original counterpart, he was voiced by Scottie Ray.
What Makes Him Pure Evil?[]
- He committed the same crimes as his original counterpart until he succeeded in conquering Earth.
- Brainwashes the entire Utrom race, his own kind, enslaving them to his will.
- Destroys any resistance against him.
- Forces all humans to work 18 hours in his labor camps and to not go out at night.
- Enslaved Utrom scientists to build a transmat device to conquer the universe.
- When Hun and Baxter voiced objections to Shredder's atrocities, he had Hun crippled and Baxter fused to him, then set them both to be executed despite their history of service, only to be saved by April and the group.
- His actions still affected them years later, to the point were even Hun wished that the Shredder put him out of his misery.
- When Hun went out and sought for forgiveness so he can work for him again, he crushes him and Stockman to death sadistically. This ultimately shows that he never cared for them.
- Has Splinter, Casey, Michelangelo, Leonardo and Raphael killed by Karai and his other minions.
- Even if he didn't directly kill them, he was still responsible for their deaths as Karai was forced to finish them off, otherwise, she would be punished by him. He even mocked Donnie about their deaths during the fight.
- Mocks Donatello before almost killing him.
- Due to the fact that he attacks Karai, his adoptive daughter, whenever she crosses him, this Ch'rell doesn't care about her either, not even showing any emotion after she was killed and was more focused with fighting Donnie.
Trivia[]
- Although the episode "Same As It Never Was" suggests that this version of the Utrom Shredder is from an alternate timeline, in Turtles Forever, however, suggests that he's an entirely different character living in a different universe. What indicates this is how we see these versions of the Turtles (along with other versions of them) appear in the screen Utrom Shredder displays. Therefore, he can be considered as the second version of Shredder to be Pure Evil that comes from the 2003 series (assuming this is true).
- This would beg the question whether or not he would fail the Heinous Standards to his original counterpart. However, it's worth pointing out that this Utrom Shredder stands out enough as he is the only villain to successfully kill the heroes giving him more personal villainy and managed to succeed with his overall goals and for killing off any resistance. He also never had multiversal weaponry like his original counterpart did in Turtles Forever.
- However, considering that Ch'rell's timeline/universe diverges from the third seasons finale, this means he still did all the things his original timeline counterpart did in the first three seasons.
- Whatever the case, assuming Donatello confided to his brothers and Splinter his ordeal throughout "Same As It Never Was", this Shredder inspired them to go to extreme lengths in stopping Utrom Shredder they know from reaching Utrom Homeworld in "Exodus Part 1" and "Exodus Part 2".
