Wow, another Kill la Kill fanon candidate, I wonder who it is... yeah, of course its Ragyō Kiryūin. If I'm not wrong, this might be the first fanon Ragyo proposed on this wiki. Also, I just have to say, I think this Ragyo is actually worse than her canon counterpart. You're going to see why in a bit.
Now, I will acknowledge that the fanfic is unfinished, but... given the character being discussed, I don't think she's gonna get any redeeming qualities in any new chapters that could come out.
Yeah, yeah, let's just get this over with.
What's the Work?[]
Natural Selection is a Kill la Kill fanfic written by LordGinger. The story revolves around a "What-if" scenario where everyone's favorite "Mother of the Year" does not throw her infant daughter out a garbage chute after nearly killing her via fusion with parasitic alien string. As a result, Ryuko is raised with Satsuki and Nui as Ragyo's three daughters. In general, the story is a role-swap, with Satsuki now as the heroine opposing REVOCS while Ryuko is the tyrannical president of Hounnoji Academy, though is much worse at running it, being an unstable Caligula-esque tyrant, thanks to... Her.
Who is She? What has She done?[]
Ragyo Kiryuin, like in canon, is the CEO of REVOCS and the monstrous matriarch of the Kiryuin Family. Of course, Ragyo is also the worshipper of the Life Fibers, but, unlike in canon, secretly seeks to overrrun their assimilation of Earth to instead subjugate both humans and Life Fibers via trapping them in the Celestial Cocoon and lord over all as a goddess.
Before the events of the series, Ragyo seduced scientist Soichiro Matoi and eventually married him, seeking to use their daughters Satsuki and Ryuko as experiments on the Life Fibers. This experiment would nearly kill Ryuko, who was only an infant barely out of the womb. The divergence starts when a guilt-ridden Soichiro attempts to revive the infant Ryuko, all while Ragyo just stares on apathetically, without a care in the world. Eventually, once Ryuko starts breathing again, Ragyo feigns relief that the infant daughter she almost killed is alive. She would also destroy any records on Ryuko by burning down the hospital she was born in. Some time after this, Ragyo and Soichiro would create a third "daughter" from an artificial Life Fiber womb named Nui Harime.
Ragyo would then begin to indoctrinate her 3 daughters into her Life Fiber religion, beginning by bonding a 4 year old Ryuko to Kamui Junketsu, while the kamui was still a feral, human-eating beast. This ritual is shown to have caused Ryuko a great amount of pain, and believe it or not, this is one of the least bad things Ragyo will do to any of her daughters. Throughout their childhood, Ragyo would attempt to exert complete and total control over her daughters' lives. She would force Nui to kill animals and even humans at a young age, drills a Life Fiber-centric mindset into Ryuko and Nui, even having them worship the Primordial Life Fiber, and ostracizes Satsuki for being just a normal human. When Soichiro shows signs of betrayal, Ragyo attempts to have him assassinated and frame the incident as an accident, but Soichiro goes into hiding as Isshin Matoi and forms the Nudist Beach Insurgency to oppose REVOCS.
Now, what I described is pretty bad, right? Well, let's get into the bad stuff now. First off, Ragyo is planning on using Ryuko as her vessel for the Life Fibers assimilating Earth plan, which means keeping Ryuko under her thumb. However, Ryuko has a genuine bond with her sisters, which Ragyo sees as a problem, especially with Satsuki. So, Ragyo decides to have Ryuko regularly subjected to painful Mind Stitching, where she would wipe Ryuko's memories of anything Ragyo didn't want her to see, from any abuse directed towards Satsuki, to Nui attempting to kill Satsuki because of a rumor Ragyo whispered in her ear. Of course, it wouldn't be Ragyo without her ever infamous "purification rituals", where now, she's raping and molesting all 3 of her daughters, either doing the deed herself or ordering Ryuko and Nui to rape Satsuki, under the pretense of making Satsuki sync with the Life Fibers. Eventually, after Satsuki aides in the completion of Hounnoji Academy and Ryuko is placed in charge of the school, Ragyo decides that her eldest daughter has outlived her usefulness and tries to have her assassinated. Satsuki, like her father, escapes and goes into hiding to set up her own rebellion against her mother.
Meanwhile, both Ryuko and Nui become suspicious of their mother regarding her involvement in Satsuki's "death" and confront her on it. Ragyo responds by beating the crap out of her daughters and subjecting Ryuko to Mind Stitching so horrible it erases her personality completely. She also forces Nui to keep quiet on this incident. Junketsu's botched attempt to restore Ryuko would result in her becoming an unhinged tyrant who slaughters thousands as part of Ragyo's social darwinist teachings. Ragyo would also use Nui as her personal enforcer to strongarm several rival companies into either selling themselves to REVOCS or to be dissolved entirely. She also sends Nui to kill Soichiro, but unlike in canon, he escapes. By the latest point in the story, Ragyo has taken over Hounnoji and is preparing the final phase of her plan to assimilate the planet with the Life Fibers. Meanwhile, a restored Ryuko, alongside Satsuki, the Elite Four, and Soichiro, set out to stop her.
Mitigating Factors[]
Ragyo.
Heinous Standard[]
She rapes her children and wants to trap all life in a cocoon of alien string to lord over them as a god. The story does have a higher heinous standard than canon Kill la Kill, with both Ryuko and Nui commiting horrific crimes such as mass murder and torture, they don't even come close to Ragyo in terms of vileness and destructive scale. Not to mention, much of the blame of their crimes is also directed at Ragyo due to her abuse of them. While Ragyo doesn't really show up in the present day until the final chapters, she is featured frequently in flashbacks throughout the story, showing us her depravity and abuse in full.
Verdict[]
I think it's pretty obvious, isn't it?
