HIM 2016 Transparent

Guys, a promise is a promise. Thanks to your votes in my last proposal the PPGZ version of HIM is now oficially a Silly Pure Evil. So, as I said, now is the turn of his 2016 Reboot counterpart to be proposed as a Silly PE.

What Is The Work?

The Powerpuff Girls is a 2016 reboot of the 1998 Cartoon Network series of the same name. Like the original series, the story focuses on the adventures of Blossom, Bubbles and Buttercup, three little girls with superpowers that forms the superhero team the Powerpuff Girls that fights against crime to protect Townsville. However, unlike the original series, this one has a more comedic and light-hearted narrative aimed for younger audiences.

Who Is HIM? What Has He Done?

NOTE: Like in my previous proposals, I wrote this information prior in the villains wiki and I decided to use it again, This can be verified in the page's revision history, so this is not plagiarism.

HIM is the overarching antagonist of the series, he is an enigmatic demon that wants to cause evil and destruction out of cluelty one of the Powerpuff Girls' most powerful adversaries. He appears in the following episodes:

In "Tiara Troble", he sells the Mayor a tiara that later uses in a contest as reward. When Princess wins the tiara posesses her and starts to attack everyone. However, Bubbles' chants manage to break the tiara, returning Princess to normal.

In "Secret Swapper of Doom", HIM uses the disguise of Harvey to give the girls a secret swaper that they use to write all the Professor's secrets and later began to attack Townsville. However, the girls manages to defeat it telling it all their secrets.

In "Electric Buttercup" HIM sells Buttercup a electric guitar for the battle of the bands, and uses as payment the souls of Blossom and Bubbles, who become part of his band. However, Buttercup defeats HIM in a music duel, recovering the souls of her sisters.

In "Imagine That", HIM penetrates Bubbles' imagination and steals it to turn it into evil things. However, Bubbles recovers her imagination with the help of Blossom and Bubbles and defeats HIM.

In "Power of Four", is revealed that HIM used the identity of MIH, a small elephant-like creature, to gain Bliss's trust and finally reveals his true identity to manipulate her, taking her body becoming a more powerful being with the goal of turning people into objects in his reign of terror. The girls, with the help of Mojo Jojo, manage to release Bliss, but HIM return in his ultimate form and attempts to make saturn collide with Earth and destroy it. Then the four girls combine their powers to turn into the Ultimate Powerpuff Girl and defeat HIM once and for all.

In "Mojo the Great", he is mentioned by Bubbles as a possible archenemy for them.

In "Our Brand is Chaos", HIM makes a deal with Bubbles and Buttercup to buy Blossom's soul for one buck and get the SnowSploder. He takes Blossom to his dimension, but to his misfortune, Blossom orders everything in her own way. So HIM fights against Blossom to break the contract, getting it and returning everything to normal.

Heinous Standards

He simply can't help being the most heinous villain in every adaptation.

He simply can't help being the most heinous villain in every adaptation.

As in his other adaptations, HIM's demonic powers give him many extraordinary resources, and he uses them very well to do evil. In his first two appearances he already passes the baseline endangering hundreds of people in "Tiara Trouble" used the posessed Princess Morbucks with his evil tiara and in "Secret Swapper of Doom" where his giant paper fortune-teller may have endangered thousands of people in his rampage towards Townsville. However, the episode where this character once again demolishes the heinous standards is in the four part special "Power of Four".

In the special, HIM sucesspully posesses Bliss' body after manipulating her after having earned her trust as MIH, then he uses their combined powers to turn the citizens of Townsville into inanimate powers into animals while also destroying it little by little. After the girls and Mojo separates him from Bliss body, they cause him to be more powerful turining into his ultimate form and uses his power to sttract Saturn while it spins its ring like a saw to cut the Earth in two, which would cause the death of billions of lives and causes the universe to be and caused the orbits of the other planets in the solar system to become uncontrolled, making him the villain with the highest attempted kill count of the series once again in addition to be the character that has caused the most emotional damage to one of the Powerpuff Girls.

Mitigating Factors

In this section, practically the same thing can be said as with his other counterparts. HIM retains his characterization as a demon that wants to chause evil for fun and wants to be as more powerful as possible by stealing the powers of the Powerpuff Girls, and despite being an enigmatic demon he shows enough personality and a clear moral agency.

While as MIH he appears to be a hero who just wants to help Bliss as her "best friend", all of this was part of his facade to gain her trust and manipulate her in her most vulnerable moment and take her body, showing that he in reality only cared for her powers and that was never really friends with her.

Also, like his PPGZ counterpart, he lacks the redeeming qualities of the original version of this character, as he is rogue that doesn't have fiendships with other villains like Mojo Jojo and it is not shown to have any relationship with the Rowdyruff Boys and has no Pet the Dog moments like in the original series when his original version sings "Why Can't We All Get Along" respecting that there is "good" and "evil" in Townsville.

Is He Silly Enough?

Yes. Like the anime version, the reboot has a light-hearted tone suitable for all audiences which contrasts sharply with the original series, whose narrative could turn dark in some episodes, and this gives HIM comedic moments here and there. Taking as examples his first scene in the series, where he performs his evil laugh at the same time as the mayor does his cheerful laugh while the latter does not stop and HIM gets tired showing a look of boredom. His battle of the bands against Buttercup where he uses various rocker techniques presented in a humorous way, or in his final appearance, spending an entire episode trapped in a boring and exasperating office created by Blossom in his own home, ironically being her slave. Even in "Power of Four", where he has his most heinous moments, he has his comedic moments such as the way he turns the inhabitants of Townsville into random objects and animals or the way is shown how he deorbits the planets of the solar system, as they are bouncin like they were in a pinball.

However, it should be noted that most of this comedy is an extension of the light-hearted tone of the series rather than traits of this character, as in reality HIM is one of the villains that are taken more seriously in-universe (along Silico and Allegro to some extent) even if not by the narrative. This is noted because, like in the anime version, most villains of the reboot including Mojo Jojo and Princess Morbucks are too laughable and incompetent that even everyone in-universe usually takes them as lame jerks rather than threats, however HIM is among the few villains who demonstrate full competence in their actions and everyone takes seriously because of the threat they pose. Even his own personal traits that are comedic aren't truly detracting because his rock abilities shown in the battle of the bands against Buttercup, although being funny from the audience's point of view, in-universe are second to his intentions of defeating Buttercup and taking the girls' souls and his crime of turning people in random objects and animals, despite being portrayed in a silly way by the narrative, it is taken seriously in-universe because everyone were suffering for these transformations. It should be mentioned that his manipulation towards Bliss and him using Saturn to chop the Earth in two, which are his worst crimes, aren't portrayed comedically in the slightest despite having some actual comedy involved.

Final Verdict

Well, with all his traits and actions he should deserve a yes.
