Ursula is the main antagonist of Liz Braswell's 2018 novel Part of Your World, a "what if …?" of the Disney classic The Little Mermaid in which one imagines what would have happened if Ariel had not been able to regain her voice and failing to marry Prince Eric. She is therefore based on the film's main antagonist of the same name.
What Makes Her Pure Evil?[]
- She lacks any of the comedic and redeeming traits of her animated counterpart and is much darker, edgier, more cruel and serious.
- As in the cartoon, Ursula is a sea witch who wants to overthrow King Triton and take over the ocean.
- Also as in the cartoon, she makes a deal with Ariel, transforming her into a human, but with the condition she had to kiss prince Eric, as well as give her her voice.
- She married Prince Eric instead of Ariel to become Queen of Eric's kingdom, robbing Ariel the chance to become a human permanently if Eric gave her a True Love's Kiss despite making a deal with Ursula to do so.
- She transformed King Triton in a polyp in exchange of not enslaving Ariel, keeping him as a trophy.
- She saw her pet eels Flotsam and Jetsam as tools or pawns and never cared for them, whereas her mainstream counterpart loved them and was horrified when she accidentally got them killed (Which is the primary reason why the original is not Pure Evil).
- She expanded the influence of Eric's kingdom through subtle military campaigns and other strategies, killing countless in the process.
- She tried to sacrifice Triton in a ritual to the Elder Gods to gain new powers.
- After Ariel convinced Eric of Ursula's deception and spoiled her plans, she decided to blow up Atlantica by throwing bombs there from warships.
- While she congratulated Flotsam and Jetsam for capturing Flounder, she just did that to distract her subjects from discovering her plans.
- She pinned the blame of her actions on Ariel upon being exposed by Max during a performance of the "Sirenette" play, though it didn't work.
- She drew blood from the audience seeing the "Sirenette" for her ritual, forcing Ariel to turn herself, Triton, the Trident and Atlantica to spare the humans there.
Trivia[]
