“ | How foolish, to battle in the name of peace. How absurd! You were programmed for war, Optimus. Without it, you would be just another Autobot. You are exactly the same as Galvatron, except your objective is for peace. How does engaging in war translate as peace? | „ |
~ Unicron tries to turn all of Optimus' ideals against him and break him in order to corrupt him to become his new host. |
Unicron is the titular overarching antagonist of the Unicron Trilogy within the Transformers franchise.
He is the archenemy of Cybertronian God Primus, warring with him over the fate of existence as Unicron deems existence itself an insult to him and sought to end all of it for the sake of his arrogance. He was the master of Sideways and Thrust.
He was voiced by Mark Acheson. When possessing Megatron, he was voiced by David Kaye, who also voiced Megatron in the Beast Era, Mysterio in Spider-Man: Shattered Dimensions, Cronus in Class of Titans and Klunk in Secret Agent Clank.
What Makes Him Pure Evil?[]
In General[]
- While originally assumed to be made of evil in Armada due to sustaining in the hatred and evil of Cybertronians, Energon reveals that Unicron doesn't even need pain and suffering for sustenance, not even eating the planets he destroyed and just simply does because he deems existence as an insult, that too with Primus revealing Unicron has both a black heart and a good heart and the very reason Alpha Q even wants to resurrect Unicron was he can actually restore all the planets he destroyed. Even when Cybertron reveals the black hole that threatens all realities known as the Unicron Singularity was formed as a result of Unicron's death disrupting the balance between good and evil, Unicron still has moral agency over his actions as he could've easily have been a force of good and life and be the God of Creation and only became the God of Destruction that brought nothing but death and misery that balances of Primus solely by choice than being forced to out of sheer instinct.
- This is the version that truly established Unicron's reputation as an omnicidal maniac the best, who sought nothing more than the permanent end of space, becoming a threat to all the universes that his presence brought an entire alliance between the Autobots and Decepticons.
- While not having dialogue on his own, when possessing others, Unicron has more than enough dialogue to establish a firm characterization speaking through them, showcasing nothing but smug pride and arrogance, as well as proving himself to be a spiteful being, all while being a manipulative who played the Cybertronians and slowly corrupted them or playing them as tools for his own ends.
Armada[]
- Created the Mini-Cons to escalade the war between the Autobots and Decepticons so Unicron could corrupt and destroy them both by draining them of their energy. The alternate timeline showed that hadn't the three Autobot human allies who accidentally time-travelled in the past intervened, the sight of Unicron's extermination of the Cybertronians would be a ghastly sight.
- Possesses Sideways to be his agent to manipulate the Autobot and Decepticon war to cause his reawakening.
- Murders Starscream in cold-blood for trying to end his threat and get the Autobots and Decepticons to form an alliance.
- Uses a laser that creates a hole on Cybertron and attempts to devour it.
- When Thrust gets killed on Unicron's shoulder point. The Chaos Bringer wasn't aware or didn't care about the former Decepticon.
- Drains Galvatron of his energy and then proceeds to threaten Optimus with death to have him become his new host. Unicron was extra sadistic in this by turning Optimus' own ideals against and gaslighting him that he is a massive hypocrite who would've been as bad as Galvatron had he not have the Matrix to break his spirit.
- Attempts to consume Autobots' human allies, who were all kids, on his mind to drain their life force with great relish.
- Briefly stripped the Mini-Cons of any of their free will and made them all his slaves.
Energon[]
- Upon surviving his defeat in Armada, during the time-skip between Armada and Energon, attacked multiple planets and devoured them, one of them being Alpha Quintesson's planet, through which Scorponok was forced to blow up the core to weaken him. This caused Unicron be indirectly responsible for Alpha Q's attacks on Autobot bases to acquire Energon for his plan to restore his homeworld.
- Attacked and killed multiple Decepticons to drain them off their Energon and kill them.
- Drives Shockblast into insanity and have him rampage across the Blizzard Planet.
- Spitefully attempts to destroy all of Alpha Q's planets when Optimus proves to be a more tougher foe than usual.
- Manipulates Megatron into finding a vat of Super energon and become Galvatron so he can take over the planet and have Galvatron destroy Alpha Q's planets for him by using Cybertron as a battering ram, managing to destroy some of them.
- Possesses Galvatron to begin his destruction of space.
Cybertron[]
- Even when destroyed for good, Unicron's evil still remained, as he creates a black hole posthumously that grows to consume not only the universe, but reality itself, wiping out all possible realities and timelines, and would've succeeded if Primus had not destroyed it with his powers.
Trivia[]
- Originally, Unicron didn't count in Armada due to big implications such as him sustaining himself on pain, suffering and hate and being destroyed when insufficient hate was present to sustain him. These were all disproven in Energon by the fact that not only does he not even eat all the planets he destroys, and the aspect of him sustaining on pain and suffering was dropped after Armada, but Primus notes he does have a black heart as well as a good heart and has the power to undo the damage he caused, and thus could've easily been a force of good and creation, proving he is only evil by choice than nature and has moral agency over his actions and thus became PE.
- In the original Japanese versions, only the version appearing in Micron Legends/Super Link counts, as the final installment Galaxy Force, unlike in the dub is disconnected from the other two series, so Unicron is insufficiently heinous with nearly all of his acts omitted while haivng problems of being made of evil.
- Both he and Megatron are the only villains from the Unicron Trilogy to be Pure Evil. Ironically, both don't keep at Armada and only became Pure Evil by the time of Energon.
