He is voiced by and modeled after Nao Oomori.
What Makes Him Pure Evil?[]
- Despite living a highly prosperous legal lifestyle due to his father Heizo wanting to give him a good life, Iwami craved power to stand at the top of the criminal underworld, willingly throwing away his civilian life to become a crime lord.
- When a man named Matsunaga revealed to him the truth of Onomichi, he begged the young Tsuneo to have his father spare him, but he refused and allowed Matsunage to be killed while pretending to not knowing anything about the Secret of Onomichi.
- To seize his chance to gain power within the Yomei Alliance, he created a criminal conspiracy alongside Katsumi Sugai to wage war with the Saio Triad so he could take over the alliance and Tokyo as well.
- He caused this war by having both Sugai and Takumi Someya cause a large arson attack on a district of Little Asia, causing several casualties and destruction as a result.
- After learning from Jimmy Lo that his father and the Saio Triad's leader, Big Lo, didn't know anything about the Secret of Onomichi, he blackmails Big Lo into expanding Saio operations into Tokyo despite Heizo's prohibition.
- He then arranged the death of Big Lo and Jimmy by hiring the Jingweon Mafia to kill them both. While the mafia successfully killed Jimmy, Big Lo survived. This further caused conflict between both the Tojo Clan and the Saio Triad, turning Kamurocho into another mob-warzone as a result.
- He arranged for Daigo Dojima, Goro Majima, and Taiga Saejima to be sent to prison for a long time to ensure that both Sugai and Someya take control of the Tojo Clan and continue on with their war against the Saio Triad, with the former becoming the temporary chairman of the clan as a result.
- He tried to have Haruto Sawamura, the son of Haruka and Yuta, and grandson of Kiryu, killed multiple times, but his assassination attempts were prevented by Kiryu.
- Due to his actions of trying to kill Haruto, as well as the revelation of being the son of Big Lo, Yuta Usami tried to commit a murder-suicide to take down Big Lo and the Saio Triad, causing a massive arson that destroys the entire city of Little Asia.
- When the Secret of Onomichi was revealed, he used this as a chance to earn good tidings with the Daidoji faction so they could back up his position of being the new leader of the Yomei Alliance.
- On orders of Minoru Daidoji, he happily arranged the death of Heizo by ordering Kanji Koshimizu to shoot him, so he could take over the Yomei Alliance and satisfy his petty vendetta towards him.
- He had Kiyomi Kasahira, Someya's ex-wife, kidnapped and held hostage, sadistically forcing Someya to fight Kiryu under the threat of killing Kiyomi. Following Someya's failure, he used a cruel choice game in which Kiyomi would be killed on the count of three unless Kiryu killed Takumi. Iwami then decided to have Kiyomi killed out of spite, even though Someya had committed seppuku to please him (though fortunately Kanji Koshimizu spared Kiyomi, both out of respect for Someya and his disgust at Iwami's lack of honor).
- He arranged for Haruka and Haruto to be kidnapped and taken hostage so he could use them against Kiryu, which led to the death of Jiro Honjo and Makoto Date getting injured.
- After forcing Kiryu and Tsuyoshi Nagumo to stand down under the threat of killing Haruka and Haruto, he and Sugai proceed to torture Kiryu, first with Sugai beating Kiryu with a iron pipe and Iwami beating Kiryu with his bare hands.
- He cowardly orders Sugai to kill both Haruka and Haruto to save himself after being easily defeated by Kiryu. This forces Kiryu to knock him unconscious and takes the bullet from Sugai to protect Haruka, Yuta, and Haruto.
- Despite his defeat, his actions impacted the entire Yakuza Saga.
- Because of his attempts to murder Haruka and Haruto, as well as out of fear that they may be in more grave danger, Kiryu is forced to fake his death and join the Daidoji faction as an agent in order to shield them from the group and anybody else who might endanger him, his loved ones, and his friends.
- Due to his indirect actions, he is ultimately responsible for the end of the Tojo Clan and bringing the yakuza era to an official end.
- While the heinous standards are gravely high in the Like A Dragon franchise, Iwami mainly stands out not for his conspiracy to take over the Yomei Alliance and Tokyo, and causing a war between the Tojo Clan and the Saio Triad by burning down a large district and killing Big Lo's son and heir, but also for his personal villainy towards several characters such as Kiryu and his loved ones like Haruka, Haruto, and Yuta, as well as being one of the catalysts behind the Tojo Clan's disbandment.
- What also makes him worse are his resources, as he is the CEO of a shipbuilding company and is considered to be living a privileged life, but he uses them so he could take over the criminal underworld. In fact, the game, story narrative, and even Kiryu himself state that Iwami is nothing more than a civilian CEO attempting to be a yakuza, but ultimately fails to be one, and is just a psychotic and egotistical manchild who wishes to become a criminal willing to cross any moral lengths to achieve it.
