Winslow Schott, better known as Toyman, is a minor antagonist in the animated film Superman: Doomsday, being based on DC Comics' character of the same name
He is a criminal who likes to intimidate children for his own sick pleasures via kidnapping them and attempting murder on them. While he only appears in a handful of scenes, he still has enough impact on the story and is the root cause of Superman's clone's descent into villainy.
He was voiced by John DiMaggio, who also voiced The Faceless Hunter in Batman: The Brave and the Bold, Aggregor, Vulkanus and Ragnarok in the Ben 10 franchise, the Joker in Batman: Under the Red Hood and Rough Cut in DC Showcase: Catwoman.
What Makes Him Pure Evil?[]
- He kidnaps a busload of children and threatens to drop it off a building unless the police let him get away with stolen money. When Lois Lane intervenes and saves most of the children, Toyman tries to kill her and a little girl still inside the bus.
- It's revealed that he broke out of prison later on and took even more children hostage at a daycare center. While the cops did manage to take him down and arrest him, it sadly wasn't before he took the life of 4-year-old Katie Albert.
- His death under the hands of the Superman clone wasn't played for sympathy, as his last crime of killing off a child has already solidified his psychopathic nature.
- Overall, he has no reason for tormenting children, other than just pure sadism as a criminal himself.
- Although he dies after only appearing in a handful of scenes, Toyman still leaves quite an impact on the story since the child murder he committed was the root cause of Superman's clone becoming a vigilante throughout the rest of the movie. He also has less resources than Lex Luthor and has a clear moral agency, unlike Doomsday.
Trivia[]
- He is the only version of Toyman to be Pure Evil, as Toyman is usually portrayed as being tragic.
