Thomas Alexander "Alex" Upton is the main antagonist of the 2018 Netflix science-fiction thriller film TAU.
He is a mad scientist obsessed with creating the most powerful, intelligent artificial intelligence called TAU.
He was portrayed by Ed Skrein, who also played Ajax in Deadpool.
Biography[]
Alex is the inventor of TAU, a home monitoring AI system. For TAU to be seen as perfect for his billion dollar contract, Alex kidnaps people and connects their brains to TAU's system. Once Julia becomes the next victim, she discovers that TAU might be a prisoner like her.
What Makes Him Pure Evil?[]
- Kidnaps numerous people and forces them to complete puzzles to increase TAU's experience, killing them by removing their brain implants once their objectives are complete.
- Tortures TAU by erasing his memory whenever he learns something unnecessary.
- Imprisons Julia within his mansion and enforces TAU to use violence whenever she attempts to escape.
- Forces TAU to knock Julia unconscious and tie her to a statue or risk a complete reboot to his system.
- Attempts to kill Julia by removing the implant in her brain.
Trivia[]
- Despite Thomas Alexander Upton's Pure Evil status, his actor Ed Skrein possibly doesn't see him as Pure Evil, as Skrein noted ahead of the premiere of Rebel Moon that Admiral Atticus Noble, his villainous role in that film, is the first villain he ever plays without trying to add any kind of humanity or empathy. What kind of moral liminations Skrein may see on Upton, however, are unknown.
