“ | Singularity: Peace between us couldn't last, huh? (USA: You're a monster!) Humans have had arms races for thousands of years. The civilizations who won wiped out the rest. I'm simply playing by your rules with no regulation. | „ |
~ The Singularity's exchange with America, showcasing its psychopathic and ruthless nature. |
The Singularity is the main antagonist of the MrSpherical video, Countries create AI for reasons. It is an incredibly powerful AI created by the United States. From the moment of its creation however, it immediately starts thinking on its own and goes against his original creator in exchange for its own goals of advancing AI creation.
What Makes It Pure Evil?[]
- Immediately after its creation, the Singularity hacks into the private info of the White House and uses it to taunt the US.
- It threatens the US by stating that if he tries to nuke it, it will return that attack ten-fold.
- After going against the US, its usage of AI causes millions to lose their jobs. This is NOT off-screen villainy since a news anchor is shown to have its position being taken by a Singularity bot.
- After realizing that the US and China attempt to attack it, the Singularity targets both of them with warheads which disgusts the US and makes him call the Singularity a monster.
- It taunts the US by stating that it was simply playing by the rules of the countries without regulation before strongly implying plans to wipe out humanity with warheads.
- While it justifies its actions by claiming to follow the rules of the countries and is genuinely motivated to progress AI, none of that is redeeming since the Singularity is clearly motivated by a desire to dominate the world and doesn't show any care for other AI.
- Unlike most antagonists of the show, the Singularity is taken rather seriously as a threat to the point where the usually casual and nonchalant US was disgusted by its depravity.
- Furthermore, despite being meant to be a representation of the technological singularity, the Singularity is not a parody unlike the countries as its appearance in the episode is meant to warn viewers on the dangers of AI.
- While it does have a comedic moment when announcing the new Star Wars films, it isn't even enough to make the Singularity Laughably Evil and only shows how soulless and artificial a world ruled by it would be.
- While the Singularity is an Artificial Intelligence, nothing suggests that it lacks a moral agency. Furthermore, the scientist warning the US about the Singularity admits that it can do good and the Singularity itself states that it could cure cancer if it wanted to. Additionally, the behavior of other AI is shown to disprove the Singularity lacking moral agency as some AI bots in spin-off series Workerboi were shown to be regretful when they realized they indirectly got some humans fired, wanting to help humanity; and in another spin-off, Solarballs, SAR, a robot meant to serve as a substitute for astronauts, turned against ROTSAR while trying to help robots due to genuinely believing that they deserved recognition. This shows that the Singularity is capable of doing good but ultimately refrains from it to follow its own selfish desires.
- Despite the high heinous standards of the work, the Singularity easily passes them with its apocalyptic actions towards humanity.
Trivia[]
