The Rani is a major antagonist in the Doctor Who franchise and the secondary antagonist of the Sixth Doctor's tenure, a major antagonist in the Seventh Doctor's tenure and the main antagonist of the Fifteenth Doctor's tenure.
She is a renegade Time Lady who featured as the main antagonist of the story arcs Mark of The Rani, Time of The Rani, Dimensions in Time, The Rani Reaps the Whirlwind, The Rani Elite and Planet of The Rani, as well as the overarching antagonist of Season 1 and the main antagonist of Season 2 in the Disney era of the revival series. She is also the final antagonist of The Sixth Doctor's final story, the big finish audio drama "The Last Adventure".
She has faced off against the Doctor in his sixth, seventh and fifteenth incarnations thus far and is notable for being one of the few main enemies (alongside The Master and the Cybermen) for being responsible for killing an incarnation of The Doctor. She is a genius-level biochemist and inventor who rejected the Gallifreyan policies of non-interference over other races and became an outcast from their society.
She is considered as one of the two archenemies of the Sixth Doctor (alongside The Valeyard) due to her facing his incarnation more than any other doctor as well as for causing his death.
She was portrayed by the late Kate O'Mara in her first incarnation, and voiced by Siobhan Redmond in her second, Anita Dobson in her Mrs. Flood incarnation and by Archie Panjabi in her fourth incarnation.
What Makes Her Pure Evil?[]
- Killied and enslaved countless civilizations.
- Performed cruel and unethical experiments on animals, humans and aliens alike.
- She created giant rats which ran amok on Gallifrey before killing the Lord President's cat and triggered the man himself to regenerate.
- Brainwashed and killed several citizens in Killingworth.
- Planted mines to turn people into trees on Killingworth.
- Plotted with The Master to kill The Doctor (albeit half-heartedly out of disinterest)
- Firing lethal radiation beams at The Doctor's TARDIS, killing his sixth incarnation.
- She then drugs the freshly regenerated Seventh Doctor to give him amnesia and forces him into helping her with her new scheme.
- Forces the Lakertyan leader into submission by abusing his daughter.
- Freed Conrad Clark from prison.
- Stole an infant from 1865 Bavaria who was born as a member of the Pantheon of Discord, and used his power to allow Conrad to create a world that accumulated doubt that destroyed Earth and attempted to release Omega from the Underverse only to be eaten for her troubles.
- It's implied that Melanie Bush, one of The Seventh Doctor's companions, has PTSD from fighting against her, with The Rani even saying "you thought about me every night" when meeting an older Melanie.
- While she did release Omega to save the Time Lords from extinction, she makes it clear she plans to use him for her own selfish goals and to rebuild Gallifrey in her image.
