The Operator is the main antagonist of the 2015 found footage horror film Always Watching: A Marble Hornets Story. He is a tall and faceless supernatural entity in a suit who stalks and kills people by possessing them and making them.
He was portrayed by Doug Jones, who also played the Pale Man in Pan's Labyrinth, The Candy Shop Owner in The Candy Shop and The Bye Bye Man in the movie of the same name.
What Makes Him Pure Evil?[]
- Unlike his original counterpart, this version of The Operator is given far more characterization, with him being portrayed as a cruel serial killer who forces people to kill their love ones and leaves calling cards instead of just a virus who encourages people to kill for him.
- Constantly marked his victims painfully with the operator symbol.
- Tormented and chased after a couple in the woods before possessing the boyfriend and making him kill the girlfriend by pulling her out their car and snapping her neck. Following this, he presumably killed him as well.
- Stalked a family consisting of Dan Wittlocke, his wife Rose, and their daughter Tara (who was a child). When the three attempted to escape it by traveling across the country, he followed them the whole way through and began possessing Dan into trying to kill them, first starting with Tara whom he made Dan smother to death with a pillow before moving onto Rose. In turn, Rose killed him in self defense and later burned down her house while still inside it in an attempted suicide over the loss of her family.
- While she ultimately ended up surviving, the whole ordeal left her traumatized and insane, culminating in her being institutionalized in asylum by the time she was interviewed by Milo, Sarah, and Charlie.
- Stalked and tormented a news crew consisting of Milo, Sarah, and Charlie after the three began looking at Wittlocke family’s tapes.
- Killed Milo’s dog out of petty spite for the three trying to avoid him.
- Indirectly inspired Milo to hang himself the under the belief that it will make him stop targeting Charlie and Sarah, only for him to posses his corpse and kill them anyways by bludgeoning them to death with a baseball bat and latter toss his corpse aside when the deed was done.
