The Master is the main antagonist of the critically panned 1966 horror film Manos: The Hands of Fate, directed by fertilizer salesman Harold P. Warren. He is the undead leader of a cult that worships the sinister deity Manos, and enslaves numerous women to become his "wives."
He is portrayed by the late Tom Neyman in both films.
What Makes Him Pure Evil?[]
- He has enslaved numerous women to become his wives, and it's implied that he sexually molests them as well. He also has no problem disposing of them if they displease him.
- He forces Torgo, a physically disabled man, to serve him and treats him badly, refusing to share any of his wives with him. It's also established in the prequel that he murdered Torgo's predecessor.
- When a family arrives at his hotel, he has his hellhound kill their dog, then uses his powers to strand them at the hotel, intending to make Margaret and Debbie (the latter a child) his newest wives.
- He accuses his first wife of being responsible for the family's presence despite this not being true, and states she will be disposed of.
- He attempts to sacrifice Torgo for standing up to him, burning his hand off and laughing maniacally.
- He ties his first wife to a pillar and savagely beats her for defying him, before sacrificing her.
- It's revealed that he has captured the family and taken Margaret and Debbie as his wives, and enslaved Michael as the new Torgo.
- Despite having a lot of comedic moments, none of them detract from his villainy as none of it is intentional and he is played serious.
- If anything, the comedic moments were not only accidental, but also showcases Harold P. Warren's anarchistic directions of the movie, since he's actually just a fertilizer salesman rather than an actual film director.
