“ | And so it came to pass... that the human race fell... and the Earth was no more. And I looked upon my new dominion as Master of all... and I thought it, good. | „ |
~ The Master as he unleashes the Toclafane on the Earth. |
The Harold Saxon incarnation of the Master is the main antagonist of the Tenth Doctor's Era and Series 10 of Doctor Who. He is a Time Lord and the archenemy of the Doctor, alongside the Daleks and Davros.
He is unique amongst other incarnations of The Master due to his genuine hatred and disgust of The Doctor where other incarnations can at least tolerate or enjoy his presence, either for fun or due to lingering feelings of friendship towards their old friend. He is also one of the most unhinged incarnations to date, likely due to the "never-ending drumbeat" he hears in his head.
He was portrayed by John Simm.
What Makes Him Pure Evil?[]
- While he does have some comedic moments, they mainly emphasize his malevolent qualities, and his worst crimes are played seriously in-universe.
- Becoming Prime Minister of United Kingdom using hypnotism and murdering a woman who could've exposed him.
- Murdering all his political "allies" once he became Prime Minister.
- Trying to bomb Martha Jones and abducting her family members, whilst branding her, the Doctor and Captain Jack Harkness as fugitives.
- Murdering President Winters with the Toclafane.
- Bringing the Toclafane to the Earth and using them to conquer the Earth, slaughtering one tenth of the world's population and ruling the Earth as a tyrant for one year, enslaving and oppressing all of humanity.
- Torturing the Doctor, Jack Harkness and the Jones family during his rule, including aging the Doctor to be incredibly old.
- Trying to use the Earth to wage war against the rest of the universe in order for him to conquer the universe.
- Abusing his wife and his servants.
- Destroying all of Japan for fun and forcing his prisoners to watch.
- Attempted to kill Martha Jones right in front of the Doctor, as well as killing Thomas who tried to save her.
- Trying to kill the Doctor's companions and the Jones family when he can't kill him.
- He allowed himself die from a gunshot and refusing to regenerate purely to sadistically leave the Doctor alone in the universe.
- Devouring all humans and turning them into copies of himself.
- Was willing to ascend into godhood with his fellow Time Lords whilst the rest of creation is destroyed, calling the Time War being unleashed "my kind of world".
- Attempted to have his copies kill Donna.
- Threatening to kill Wilfred Mott if the Doctor refused to tell him where the TARDIS is.
- While he does save the Doctor from Rassilon and his act of doing so is played somewhat sympathetically, it doesn't count as a redeeming quality as he only did it to take revenge.
- Even after being cured of the drumming, which had driven him mad, he willingly continued engaging in malevolent acts out of his free will.
- Created a facility that painfully transforms people into Cybermen.
- While it is hinted that he was affected by the Twelfth Doctor's speech about doing good for the sake of it, he immediately ignores it and even mocks the Doctor.
- He killed his future incarnation to avoid any version of himself helping the Doctor.
