The Infant is a major antagonist of the manga/anime series Inuyasha. He is one of Naraku's incarnations (specifically the seventh incarnation), being the vessel of his heart.
He was created in Mt. Hakurei after Naraku disposed of the part of his heart that was Onigumo (and still loved Kikyō) in order to kill the priestess. The Infant was exactly that, and so he had no combat abilities, but instead spent most of his time corrupting people and searching for the Border to the Afterlife.
He was voiced by Ai Kobayashi in Japanese and Chiara Zanni in English, both of whom also voice Hakudōshi in the same series.
What Makes Him Pure Evil?[]
- Immediately following his creation, the Infant took control of an Okugata of a castle, manipulating her into ordering the castle's soldiers to capture any suspicious travelers in the area, all as a part of his mission to capture Kagome and possess her in order to find the pieces of the Shikon Jewel.
- To ensure Inuyasha wouldn't interfere with the kidnapping of Kagome, he orders Kagura to use her "Dance of the Dead" to make a dead priest give false information about Kikyō's whereabouts.
- When he captured Kagome, he tried to possess her to find the pieces of the jewel, using her negative feelings (her jealousy of Kikyō) so he could place a defiled shard to permanently manipulate her.
- Alongside Kagura, he's been murdering many monks while examining their minds in order to find the Border to the Afterlife.
- He also killed the monk Shinsen and examined his mind to find the Border before the monk attempted to use his final moments to hill him, which unfortunately failed and led to the creation of his other half Hakudōshi.
- In order to hide his presence, the Infant manipulated the lady of the castle, deceiving her into believing he was her child (while her true child was stillborn), taking over the castle, and hiding away for the time being.
- Alongside Hakudōshi, he plotted to usurp Naraku as they believed that they were the true originals of Naraku.
- Despite being an incarnation of Naraku's heart, the Infant, like the rest of his incarnations, has complete moral agency, a clear personality and knows what is right and what is wrong, and is shown to be just as vile and cruel as his progenitor.
- Although he works with Hakudōshi and they appear to be fond of each other, they do not truly care for one another. This is particularly clear when the infant displays no sadness or surprise at Hakudōshi's demise.
