You came here to fight me, but you do not understand what I'm after. You do not understand my power. You do not understand how underwhelming your power will be against mine.
~ The First Curse preparing to fight Sabre and Time Steve.
You think... I'M GONNA LET THIS STOP ME!? I'VE BEEN WAITING, I'VE DONE MORE THAN THIS! I HAVE DESTROYED ENTIRE CIVILIZATIONS OF PEOPLE YOU'VE NEVER EVEN HEARD OF! I'VE DONE SO MUCH MORE! The armor was only a tool. My power extends that! You think that that armor is all I have? All I need? I only need MYSELF. I'll extend a curse across the entire UNIVERSE. THE UNIVERSE WILL BE MY ARMOR! JUST YOU SEE! I'LL SHOW YOU ALL!!
~ The First Curse after being defeated by Hypno Steve.
I am the first of despair! A curse which lasts forever, as long as there is existence! There is only one of me, but because of curses, I AM EVERYWHERE! AHAHAHA! I... AM THE FIRST CURSE!
~ The First Curse revealing himself to TR!Sabre.
This... is the moment I've been waiting for. The solution... to limitless power.
~ The First Curse finally achieving what he's always wanted - unlimited power.

The First Curse, formerly known as The Unnamed, is the overarching antagonist of the Steve Cinematic Universe, appearing as the overarching antagonist of Rainbow Quest and Steve Legends, and the main antagonist of Twisted Rainbow.

In Rainbow Quest, he appears as the unseen overarching antagonist of Seasons 1-5, the overarching antagonist of Season 6 and the main antagonist of Season 7. In Steve Legends, he appears as the unseen overarching antagonist of Season 1 and the overarching antagonist of Season 2.

He is one of Origin Steve's first creations, while also himself being a creator of Dread Steve, the Obsidian Steves and the Diamond Steves respectively. Despite spending many generations immobile and imprisoned, he has also been pulling strings behind the scenes, even manipulating Void Steve. The First Curse is considered the second strongest being in the universe, only being topped by Origin Steve. Unlike all the other characters, The First Curse technically isn't a living object. He was literally the first curse to ever exist, and created the concept of curses as a result.

He can also be considered the second oldest being in the universe, once again being below Origin Steve. Since Origin's other creations, Genesis, Dream Steve and the Judge were all killed, the First Curse was the last of Origin's descendants left alive until his defeat. This can be attributed to both his resourcefulness and sly manipulation tactics when encountering other Steves, as well as the fact that not even being imprisoned could keep his powers fully contained.

What Makes Him Pure Evil?[]

In General[]

  • Overall, he's both directly and indirectly responsible for all the events in the series, is the origin of all evil in the universe and is only motivated by ego and power.
  • Although he's a curse and is made of evil, he has fully moral agency and understands how to do good (as is shown with him granting good luck to the Steve village), but chooses not to, even relishing in being evil and knows he is.
    • Speaking of, even though it's mentioned that he brought good luck to the Steve Village, he only did so to divert suspicion away from him and prevent the village from getting rid of him so he could further scheme while imprisoned.
  • Although he has a couple comedic moments, none of them detract from how evil and serious he's played to be, and in every comedic moment he appears in, he's always deadly serious and full of anger in contrast to characters like Sabre and Time Steve. He also noticeably brings down the tone to being much darker whenever he appears, which is especially the case in Twisted Rainbow.
  • Although several of his actions are offscreen, their devastating aftermaths are shown, including his indirect/by proxy genocide of civilisations was only mentioned in Rainbow Quest, in which the aftermath is shown in Steve Legends, which shows that Void Steve, whom he had manipulated via his minion Dread Steve, committed genocide on the entirety of the Biome Steves and the Giants, species that Sabre hadn't heard of, just as he mentioned.
    • As well as that, the aftermath of the murders of the villagers who came into contact with his armor is shown with the graveyard on the outskirts of the village.
      • Similarly, even though his war with Origin Steve is only mentioned, the aftermath/proof in the form of the ghosts of the Diamond Steves and various giant masses of obsidian left behind by him, showing that he did himself physically engage in combat. Plus, the aftermath of Dream Steve's death is shown as he is the Heart of Winter and Origin's "death" by being locked out of the physical realm is also shown in the main and prequel series.
  • Although he seems to care for TR!Sabre or show some genuine respect for him, it's very clearly not genuine, given that he only spared Sabre when he revealed he had similar goals and laughed at his "take what's yours" comment he made to him previously when referring to Sabre getting revenge, showing that the First Curse only sees him as a pawn and doesn't have even a shred of genuine care or respect for him.
    • On top of that, even though he claims TR!Sabre will be "the only Sabre he enjoys having around", he's referring to the fact that he likes having TR!Sabre around so he can manipulate him easily, taking advantage of Sabre's natural kindness. He also would've killed TR!Sabre if not for him revealing he had similar goals, meaning that he only spared him because he could be useful to the First Curse's schemes.

Past[]

  • As soon as he was created, his insatiable lust for power due to being a curse of power caused him to consume as much power as possible to become the strongest entity in the universe, leading to him rebelling against Origin Steve and starting a war against him.
    • He created the Diamond Steves and corrupted them to ensure they would remain under his control, effectively brainwashing them.
    • He cursed Origin Steve by locking him out of the physical realm, forcing him to exist within the core of all Steves as a noncorporeal entity.
    • He created Dread Steve as a weapon of psychological warfare and used him to torture victims by locking them in their minds and forcing them to face repeating nightmares of their greatest fears.
      • Because he created Dread Steve, the First Curse is indirectly responsible for the fall of Seer and his corruption into Void Steve, who would set the groundwork for the events of the series. As well as that, the First Curse mentioned having destroyed several civilisations in the past, in which the aftermath is shown in Steve Legends, with hundreds of dead Biome Steves being shown, the genocide having been committed by Void Steve, who himself was manipulated by the First Curse's minion, Dread Steve. The First Curse essentially bragged and took credit for the work he influenced, showing no remorse for what he had done.
    • He cursed an Indigo Steve that stood up to him, transforming him into the Ruin and resulting in him being shunned and feared upon by the Steves.
    • He cursed the Demon Steves with reality-warping powers, allowing them to cause more chaos in the Overworld and lead to countless deaths.
  • He drove Professor Red to complete insanity by presumably showing him a vision of the World Below through a portal, leaving him a shell of his former self.
  • He is directly responsible for curses existing, having cursed every Steve so that when he fed on their energy, he'd also feed off their curses so he could become more powerful.
    • Because he's the progenitor of all curses, he's directly responsible for cursing and transforming Spark, Sharp, Beef and the Red Leader into Reverse Steve, the Great Librarian, Faceless and Hypno Steve, the latter of which was driven insane due to his curse of infinite knowledge and knowing how the world ended.
  • He instantly killed eleven Steves who came into contact with his armor after trying to manipulate them into releasing him from his chains.

Rainbow Quest[]

  • Bestowed Void Steve with immortality and manipulated him into returning to the Overworld alongside the Demon Steves. This was so he could get Void Steve killed by Sabre and prevent him from interfering with his plans.
  • He tried to manipulate Sabre into releasing him numerous times, one of which involved him sending out an illusion of the late Rainbow Steve so Sabre would follow it into the caverns where the First Curse was trapped.
  • He gave a Demon Steve sentience and brought it to the Overworld so it would kill Steves and leave Sabre desperate enough to ask him for help, which lead to the First Curse successfully manipulating Sabre into releasing him from his chains.
  • Soon after being released, he instantly teleported nearly every single Steve into his armor and held them in an infinite stasis, attempting to drain them of their energy and curses until they died from having their life force drained.
  • He captured Light and Green Steve by teleporting them into his armor, much to Sabre's dismay.
    • Afterwards, he had Sabre follow him outside so he could look at the sky and enjoy it while it lasted, knowing that the end was going to come.
  • He nearly stole the Core so he could achieve infinite power and nearly killed Sabre, Assistant Steve and M to get to it.
  • Aggressively hunted down Sabre, Time Steve, Assistant Steve and M, nearly killing M in the process.
  • After losing control of his armor to Hypno Steve, he placed a curse on the entire universe in the hopes of evaporating it into nothing, purely out of petty spite for losing, which would've collapsed the fabric of reality and wiped out all traces of life.
  • After cursing the universe, several disasters struck various parts of the world.
    • A giant tsunami nearly crashed into the Green Kingdom and killed everyone there, and was only held back by Time Steve's powers.
    • Shattered the fabric of time and space so much that interdimensional time entities were forced to try and fix the flow of time.
    • The curse severely damaged Time Steve's mental state and nearly made him quit. Had he quit, the entire universe would've been destroyed.
    • He summoned a giant meteor that took out the entirety of the Yellow Kingdom, destroying the castle and leaving Sabre and Time Steve believing that the Yellow King was dead.
      • His curse was so strong that it both prevented the meteor from being frozen by Time Steve's powers and prevented Time from teleporting out of the area.
  • He attempted to kill Light Steve after he had transformed into the fourth and final Rainbow Steve.
  • Even after his supposed death, his curse was completely irreversible and he would've posthumously won if not for Sabre going back in time to repair the timeline by creating Origin Steve in the past.

Twisted Rainbow[]

  • He cursed a lost fragment of Time Steve so he could merge with it and take it over to assume a new form and begin rebuilding himself.
  • He is responsible for the events of Twisted Rainbow and everything that happened in that universe due to his actions leading to the creation of the multiverse.
  • Emotionally manipulated TR!Sabre by manipulating him into giving in to his anger and resentment, which resulted in TR!Sabre nearly killing the Elite Guard and Twisted Rainbow (although the latter did deserve it) and motivated TR!Sabre into wanting to create destruction across both his universe and the multiverse, eventually succeeding in manipulating him into destroying his universe and everyone in it.
  • Feigned a sympathetic backstory to TR!Sabre so he would retrieve the Core and give it to him, showing that he only saw him as a pawn, even when TR!Sabre reveals his allegiance to the First Curse, every other person who worked with him was merely a pawn he could dispose of and didn't care for, with TR!Sabre being no exception.
  • Escaped into the vast multiverse with the sole intention of conquering it and plunging it into despair and suffering for all eternity, presumably as a form of petty revenge for his previous defeat in the original universe.
  • Unlike every other character across the multiple series', the First Curse gets away with everything and faces no repercussions for his actions, having escaped into the multiverse and leaving everyone in the Twisted Rainbow universe to die at the hands of TR!Sabre.

Trivia[]

  • The First Curse is the second Steve Cinematic Universe villain to be Pure Evil.
  • If his by-proxy genocide of the Biome Steves and the Giants, as well as the murders of the villagers and his war with Origin Steve didn't have their aftermaths shown, he wouldn't qualify as Pure Evil, as he would suffer from offscreen villainy that had no evidence to showcase his heinousness.
