“ | GIVE YOURSELF TO US. | „ |
~ A sentence often repeated by the Entity. |
“ | You cannot escape this. This is not the end. I will come back. And you will play with us. I will stitch you two back together, so I can rip you apart all over again! | „ |
~ The Entity in the first trailer for Mr Hopp's Playhouse 3. |
The Entity, also known as the Dark Lord, is the overarching antagonist of the Mr. Hopp's Playhouse indie horror game series.
He is a powerful deity who once a resident of the celestial realm known as the Above, he held the esteemed title of the Guardian of Hope. However, his actions and moral decay resulted in his banishment from his heavenly abode, transforming him into a malevolent and dark ruler over the dark and sinister realm of the Underworld. In this infernal domain, he became the very embodiment of evil and sin, spreading terror and despair among those unfortunates enough to cross his path. In order to further his nefarious agenda, he crafted three devoted minions, Mr. Hopp, Miss Bo, and Mr. Stripes. These sinister underlings aided their master in his insidious mission to harvest souls and perpetuate fear. However, their actions inevitably brought them into direct conflict with Ruby and Esther, his archenemies.
Before the third game, he was voiced by the series' creator, Moonbit, and in the third game, he was voiced by Lewis MacLeod, who also voiced Bluebeard in Sandra: The FairyTale Detective and IG-88 in Star Wars: The Empire Strikes Back.
What Makes Him Pure Evil?[]
In General[]
- Despite being referred to as "the embodiment of Evil and Sin", he actually has no moral agency issues since it's said that he used to be the Guardian of Hope before being banished from the Above because of "wrongdoings and corruption", meaning he is capable of doing good but chooses to be evil.
- He's a sadistic, manipulative and vengeful being.
- While he claims the he and his minions are "cursed, forsaken, and not evil", this is nothing more than a lie that he uses to manipulate Ruby. Plus, this statement makes him very hypocritical since he was banished from the Above for wanting to do evil in the first place.
- He is responsible for every bad event that happened in the Mr. Hopp's Playhouse series.
Past[]
- He stole the six medallions that kept balance between the realms, using them to create three powerful servants to help him harvest souls.
- Before the events of the game, the Entity met a girl named Isabelle, and gave her a necklace with the Six. This lead to her being shunned by her own mother, and executed by being burned at the stake. He later turned her into a being like himself.
- It's also strongly implied that, before being executed, Isabelle used the Six to commit evil deeds (including murdering her own mother).
- Even though he did "Save" Isabelle and made her his right hand servant, He only sees her as a means to an end and nothing more.
- According to one of the Totems in the third gamed, he "preyed upon the young using terror".
- As confirmed by the creator of the game, many children before Ruby and Esther owned the Mr. Hopp toy, meaning that the suffering the Entity caused is likely much more than the one that's shown.
- He tormented Faith (Esther's mother) with nightmares when she was pregnant, trying to get her soul.
Mr. Hopp's Playhouse 2[]
- He and Mr. Hopp tortured Esther in her dreams by showing her images of Isabelle burning, causing her to be humiliated by people at the orphanage (namely Miss Beverly and Molly).
- He sent his three servants (Mr. Hopp, Mr. Stripes and Miss Bo) to commit his crimes.
- He Killed Miss Beverly in front of Esther when she was in the cellar. Although the matron definitely deserved it, the game makes it clear he only did that so he himself can continue to torment Esther further.
- He tried to "recruit" Esther (e.g kill and corrupt her) and kidnapped her friends and later the entire orphanage, dragging them into the Underworld.
- In one last attempt to break Esther down, he turns into the Amalgamation (alongside the Three Curses and Isabelle).
Mr. Hopp's Playhouse 1[]
- Years after being defeated by Esther, he comes back to haunt her, controlling her and forcing her to give Mr. Hopp to her granddaughter Ruby, who was the same age as when Esther beat him (which makes him responsible for Mr. Hopp's crimes, including the deaths of Ruby's parents).
- It's strongly implied that the Entity was responsible for her decaying health and sanity loss, which culminated with her unexpected passing at the hospital.
Mr. Hopp's Playhouse 3[]
- Due to the events of the first game, Ruby ended up being branded as a crazed killer and got outcasted by her classmates, causing her to quit school.
- He has Mr. Hopp bring Ruby to the Underworld.
- It's revealed that he kept Esther trapped in a cage.
- He tries to have Esther and Ruby killed by his servants.
- He tries to trick Ruby into betraying Esther by manipulating her into believing she is responsible for her suffering.
- If Ruby betrays him and helps Esther, the Entity attacks her, wounding and knocking her out. He then mocks Esther telling her love is what makes her and Ruby weak before telling them that they will both die.
- In the bad end, Esther is killed by the Entity while Ruby is sent back to her home sad.
- He attempts to kill Esther by himself one last time.
- After his defeat, Esther is forced to stay behind to keep souls in check.
