Herman Carter, better known as the Doctor, is one of the playable killers in Dead by Daylight. A man who had exceptional genius in psychology, Carter was hired to take part in a secret CIA project revolving around neuroscience, where he would begin to torture the prisoners in more and more extreme ways out of sadism.
He is voiced by Alex Lin.
What Makes Him Pure Evil?[]
- In his past, he tried to transplant a mouse brain into the body of a rabbit.
- Tortured his classmates for an experiment (really just a front for the CIA) on interrogation so he could gain data, even thinking about the possibility of making the classmates kill each other or become serial bombers.
- He knocked out his colleague/the "good-doctor" and then tortured him for no reason other than disliking him.
- Tortured the "good-doctor" and drove him insane into believing that the victims Carter tortured were Russian spies that needed to be executed for national security.
- Made the "good-doctor" kill all the students with a spoon so he can take the blame for his actions, and because he's never seen a murder where a spoon is the murder weapon.
- Killed and experimented on patients and prisoners after being brought to the Léry's Memorial Institute, to the point that people begged to be brought anywhere but to Carter.
- While he claimed that his research is for the study of the human brain and the depths of the human mind, it's clear he only uses his research as an excuse to torture and murder his subjects, with it being implied that at some point, he stopped interrogating his victims entirely and just tortured them out of sadistic pleasure.
- Killed his mentor at the Memorial Institute, Mr. Otto Stamper.
- Stamper's death was the most brutal out of any of the victims in Léry's. His head had been peeled open, and dozens of electrodes and sensors were attached to his exposed brain, which was somehow still functioning.
- Finally, Herman put all of the patients and staff in Léry's into vegetative states or killed them, and was taken by the Entity sometime afterwards. The government investigated Léry's after it stopped communicating, and found his work.
- The remake of his lore description outright states he killed every single person in the building - personnel, patients and prisoners - using his torturous methods that left head trauma. Worse, it's explicitly stated the institute had hundreds of staff, making the Doctor have one of the highest kill counts in the entire game.
- Hunts, kills and sacrifices the Survivors for the Entity for all of eternity under its orders, all while maniacally giggling.
- While hunting for Survivors, he tortures them with electricity and drives them insane.
- Despite the high heinous standard, the Doctor is one of the villains that meets it with his high torture count, brutal torture methods and brutal murder methods, along with being a mind breaker that causes other people to kill each other, which is a unique crime in the Dead by Daylight universe.
