“ | Director: Ever since I was young, I've had the same nightmare. I find a crack in the wall. I yell out, but no one listens. And the crack grows bigger and bigger until the wall crumbles... and the monsters pour in. I begged the queen not to question the word of Gloreth. Not to question what's kept us safe for a thousand years. But she wouldn't listen. (unlocks compartment and retrieves Ballister's sword) Allowing Ballister to hold the sword was the first crack in the wall. And now... we have a monster in our kingdom. "Ambrosius": Is that...? Director: I'm sorry, Ambrosius. (stabs Ambrosius in the stomach with the sword) "Ambrosius": (stumbles in pain, throwing around objects) Director: So yes... I framed Ballister. I killed the queen. Gloreth did whatever it took to keep the monsters out. And so will I. "Ambrosius": (gives out dying gasps) Director: May Gloreth forgive you. |

The Director is the main antagonist of the 2023 Netflix animated science fantasy adventure comedy film Nimona, based on ND Stevenson's graphic novel of the same name.
She is the director of the Institute that was made to protect their kingdom from threats. The Director is revealed to be the one to be behind the murder of Queen Valerin and framed Ballister Boldheart for it because she believes that allowing a commoner to become knight would be a "danger to the kingdom".
She was voiced by Frances Conroy.
What Makes Her Pure Evil?[]
- She is elitist towards those of lower class as she tried to convince Queen Valerin to not allow Ballister Boldheart to become a knight just because he was a commoner.
- During the day Ballister was going to be pronounced as a knight, the Director put a hidden laser in his sword, which led to Queen Valerin's death, framing Ballister as a public enemy and preventing people of lower class from becoming knights.
- When Ballister was arrested, the Director went to his cell and guilt tripped him, saying how she was so ashamed of trusting him and telling him that nobody would trust him and that he won't see anyone again. This moment can also be seen as her gloating over how she had effectively robbed him of his chance at ever being a knight.
- When Ballister and Nimona confronted her and Ambrosius Goldenloin, she told her knights that Ballister had a weapon, which lead to Todd destroying the phone that had evidence against her.
- She manipulated Ambrosius into betraying his own boyfriend Ballister and have him and Nimona arrested, smiling when Ambrosius orders their arrest.
- When Nimona, disguised as Ambrosius, confronted her about killing the queen and framing Ballister, she stabbed "him" in his chest with the former's sword before coldly admitting it.
- When Ambrosius went to arrest her, she convinced him not to by showing him a scroll of Nimona as the "monster" Gloreth fought a thousand years ago.
- She made a public speech that Nimona could take the form of anyone or anything and said everything in the video where she admitted to killing the queen and framing Nimona, before telling them she could take any form, even that of their loved ones, which caused people to avoid each other out of paranoia.
- After Nimona turned into a kaiju-like creature and attacked the city, the Director had the kingdom's cannons pointed at her, despite knowing it would destroy half of the city, killing countless innocents. When Ambrosius pointed it out, the Director stayed apathetic and told him that it wouldn't matter as the "monster" would die as well.
- Even when Nimona was calmed down by Ballister, the Director ordered the guards to fire the cannons, which made them go against her and refuse to follow her orders. When Ambrosius tried to reason with her and tell her that they have always been wrong, she shoots a laser from her staff at them. It should also be noted that this same laser was just as powerful as the one that killed the queen, so she was likely attempting to kill the knights as well.
- She went to the cannons to fire at Nimona, and in her last moments, she quoted Gloreth before firing the cannons, which shows that she has a savior complex.
- While she seems to believe that everything she does is for the good of the kingdom, even by saying that when she was a little girl she was scared of monsters while nobody was here to protect her, this is proven to be false as she uses this as an excuse for her elitist views, her fear of monsters and the unknown and hatred towards Nimona.
- Not only that she is shown to see herself as the savior of the kingdom and compares herself to Gloreth multiple times, which both proves she wants to be seen as superior to those around her and she was nothing more than just a selfish, cowardly elitist who cared only for her own life, ready to put other peoples' life in high risk to save herself only.
- Despite the movie having an abundance of comedy and light-hearted moments, she has no comedic moments and is treated seriously by the narrative. While she is a part of several comedic acts, most notably her reaction to realizing Ballister and Nimona had tricked her into admitting her crimes as well as her frustrated growl at Ambrosius immediately afterward, these are more a result of the other characters quirks rather than any comedic elements in her character.
- While her reason of her actions was because she started out as a helpless little girl who was afraid of the dark and dreamed of nobody coming to help her while she cried for it when the wall of the kingdom started to crumble, it doesn't make her sympathetic due to her actions and because by the time of the story, she is only delusionally interested in control and uses her past to justify her fear and hatred for the unknown.
Trivia[]
- Her webcomic counterpart doesn't qualify as Pure Evil as she fails the Heinous Standards to those versions of Nimona and Ballister.
- She is (technically) the only Blue Sky Studios villain to be Pure Evil.
