~ The Crone to The Scourge and The Dag about what to do with Elora Danan. |
The Crone is the main antagonist of the Willow franchise, serving as the unseen overarching antagonist of the 1988 fantasy adventure film of the same name and the main antagonist of its Disney+ sequel television eponymous series.
She is the mysterious and enigmatic High Priestess of the Order of the Wyrm, a Wyrm-worshipping taboo magical cult that plans to free the Wyrm from its prison so it can take over Andowyne forever. Among the members the Crone indoctrinated into the Wyrm's cause was Queen Bavmorda, making the Crone partially responsible for setting into motion the franchise, who failed to serve the Wyrm but whose blood the Crone still wishes to corrupt years later through her descendants.
She was voiced by Jane Carr and portrayed in her human form by Rosabell Laurenti Sellers.
What Makes Her Pure Evil?[]
- While the Order of the Wyrm may have corrupted her, no one was responsible for Princess Lili of Cashmere's fall into villainy than herself, as despite the Wyrm's followers kidnapping her from Cashmere's Ivory Tower, killing her guards and taking her to the Immemorial City, Lili willingly accepted her indoctrination by the Wyrm's influence and mastered taboo dark magic.
- Abducted Bavmorda, a curious and promising young sorceress from Tir Asleen, and radicalized her to shape her into serving as the Harbinger of the Wyrm, turning Bavmorda into an evilest sorceress as bad as her, making the Crone responsible for most of the original Willow film's events, namely Bavmorda's obsessing crusade to banish the infant Elora Danan's soul.
- Following Bavmorda's defeat, instead of feeling bad for setting Bavmorda into the path that proved to be her undoing, the Crone shrugs her death off and simply resorted to seek either Kit or Airk Tanthalos, the children of Bavmorda's daughter Sorsha, due to them having the potential at the dark arts for sharing her apprentice's magical bloodline.
- Created The Lich, The Dag, The Scourge and The Doom to to form The Gales, a quartet of monstruous beasts that would serve her orders.
- Dispatches The Gales to kidnap Airk during at party at the Tir Asleen Castle and take him to the Immemorial City, an endless desert housing the Temple of the Wyrm from which Airk can't escape through natural means.
- While Airk's sister Kit and her friends set off to rescue him, the Crone sends The Gales and allows them to do whatever they want as long they stop or delay the heroes, leading to the Lich possessing Commander Ballentine and his fellow guards to take a now grown Elora Danan to her, which forces Kit and her party to reluctantly kill Ballantine and his guards for good measure.
- Conjures an illusion of her former human younger self to discretly seduce Airk into joining the Order of the Wyrm.
- Feeds Airk with the Wyrm's milk to brainwash him into one of the Wyrm's servants.
- Makes up illusions of what Airk's rescue party desire most (for example, Kit winning Sorsha's approval or Elora marrying Airk) to trick them into giving up and joining the Wyrm, with her ploy almost being a success if not for Willow Ufgood's intervention.
- Engages in a fight against Willow, Kit and their friends, even summoning The Gales to assist her.
- Banishes Prince Graydon Hastur of Galladoorn to the Wyrm's realm, where he is now stranded with now apparent means to return to the realm of the living amd from where he is prey for the Wyrm to corrupt into becoming its newest champion.
- Spitefully transfers her power to Airk as she dies from the fatal wound Kit inflicted on her, leading Airk to temporarily become the Harbinger of the Wyrm and nearly hurt his loved ones before his sister and her friends managed to get rid of the Crone's last remains of her influence within him and save him.
Trivia[]
- In an interview with ComicBook.com, Rosabell Laurenti Sellers commented on the Crone's Pure Evil status with her remarks about how satisfied she felt at the possibility of avoiding typecasting as a "quiet, petite and naive-looking" young woman by playing a "monstruous, disgusting and ugly" villain like the Crone.
- It's believed that the Crone may have corrupted Bavmorda with the Wyrm's milk like she does with her grandson Airk Tanthalos. If this were confirmed, it would make the Crone even worse, as this would make her at least a bit responsible for setting Bavmorda into the wrong path.
