~ The Candy Shop Owner showing resentment towards Jimmy for stopping him from turning Nancy into candy.

The Candy Shop Owner is the main antagonist of the 2010 short film The Candy Shop.

He is a creepy and misogynistic individual who lures innocent girls into his candy shop using his charisma and then locks them inside a machine that he uses to turn them into candy for him to sell to adult males, however he is soon stopped by a boy named Jimmy.

He was portrayed by Doug Jones, who also played the Bye Bye Man in the film of the same name.

What Makes Him Pure Evil?[]

  • He has kidnapped many young girls and turned them into candy. He then sells the candy to adult males purely for the sake of profit. This makes him directly responsible for cannibalism.
  • When Jimmy refuses to turn his best friend named Nancy into candy, he calls him a "mere paperboy" and pulls the lever to kill Nancy. When Jimmy stopped this from happening, The Candy Man only got angry at him for preventing Nancy's death.
  • He tries to kill Jimmy with a pipe.
  • He attempts to strangle Jimmy to death, only for Jimmy to pull a lever where he is then pulled into a machine and shredded to death.
    • And while he does this, he remarks that Jimmy's "gonna look great on a stick", implying he was going to have him sold after killing him.
  • While Jimmy and Nancy were able to reverse some of the kids who were turned into candy, some were unable to be reversed, making his kill count in the hundreds as there are many lollipops and other bits of candy inside his shop.
  • His actions were so impactful that now Jimmy, Nancy, and her sister no longer see candy the same way again, and don't want anymore candy shops opening up as they believe it will cause more danger towards children, and because of him, many parents lost their children as shown at the end of the film where many concerned parents are told by Nancy that the lollipops are the children they were unable to be reversed.
  • Despite many of his crimes happening off screen, the film takes the time to show the audience his pattern which is made more and more clear as the short goes on with him manipulating girls into coming inside his shop after complimenting their outfit, showing them his machine, and then turning them into candy.
    • The process of turning girls into candy was shown to be very painful onscreen, shown when Nancy screamed in agony.
  • While he did give Jimmy money for his mother's illness to get treated, it was only because he wanted Jimmy to work for him due to Jimmy's skills as once Jimmy refused to kill Nancy, he condescendingly calls him a "mere paperboy" and attempts to kill him.
  • While his crimes might sound silly on paper, the short wanted him to be a metaphor for the Atlanta sex trafficking that involved girls during 2010 and his actions of turning girls into candy and the act being irreversible for some is played for tragedy and nothing about his crimes is portrayed in a light or comedic fashion.
