Look! Takemichi Hanagaki. I... am reborn! All for the girl I love... I will surpass you.
~ Kisaki's envy to Takemichi at Chapter 183.

Tetta Kisaki is the main antagonist of the 2017 Japanese manga series Tokyo Revengers and its 2021 anime adaptation. He is the one responsible for all the events that occurred in the series when since he first joined the Tokyo Manji Gang and has corrupted it into a criminal organization in the future.

He is the one responsible for killing Hinata Tachibana, which was the main catalyst that kick-started the plot of the series. He is the personal archenemy of Takemichi Hanagaki, Manjiro "Mikey" Sano, and Ken "Draken" Ryuguji.

He is voiced by Shōtarō Morikubo in the anime, who also voiced Zagred from Black Clover. He is voiced by Nicholas Roye in the Dubbed version.

What Makes Him Pure Evil?[]

In General[]

  • He was the mastermind responsible for all the events he caused throughout the series. His main objective was to take over the Tokyo Manji Gang, turn it into a criminal organization all by manipulating Mikey from the process just so he could prove to Hinata that he is better than Takemichi over his envy of him and shove it to his face.
  • While he was originally insecure as a child and he did have a certain crush on Hinata Tachibana until Takemichi saved her from a bunch of bullies, these said aspects led to Kisaki believing Takemichi stole Hinata from him, and the primary motive behind his actions to get her to be with him instead of the latter. However, all of this doesn't excuse nor justify his actions, the same goes for his insecurity and crush on Hinata not being completely genuine for the following reasons:
    1. Instead of trying to defend Hinata from the bullies, he cowered away from the sight despite warning her not to get involved. This only proven to be his own fault for letting Takemichi save Hinata, though he wasn't aware of Kisaki's presence at that time and Takemichi saving Hinata was not out of coincidence in-universe since he chose to do so but he did not mean to "steal" Hinata as she chose to fall for Takemichi if Kisaki had done something to help or assist her when she was defenseless against the bullies.
    2. His love for Hinata immediately shifted into total obsession and possessiveness ever since he let his desires to have her get to him, it also resulted in his hatred for Takemichi for "stealing" her favor in him and wanting to get back at him as revenge. In addition, there have been no clear signs showing he is genuinely insecure about Takemichi being with Hinata, but rather being felt petty about the fact she loved him for being who he is and being brave for others, as this is something Kisaki does not have and what he does is the opposite, being power-hungry and lacked empathy on others.
    3. After discovering Takemichi can time-leap and when he asks why he involved Hinata and caused her death in the future, instead of showing remorse for having to kill Hinata in the future, he felt rather apathetic as he showed concern about failing to get her to be with him instead of reacting to her death. In addition to Takemichi calling him out for Hinata's death under his hands, he ranted how Hinata is his woman and he would never let her be with someone like Takemichi, only to prove his misogynistic side and that he sees Hinata as his property and right to have instead of an actual person.
    4. Additionally, the future visions Takemichi witnessed of Hinata rejecting Kisaki after proposing to her and presumably finding out about his horrible actions show he has a complete lack of regard for Hinata's feelings. After the rejection, he would order her death if she does not accept him or do the opposite. This shows that Kisaki is willing to kill Hinata regardless if she won't be with him as if it meant he worked hard to impress her over nothing, but he never acknowledged his mistakes wholly.
    5. Although he mentioned the part about how he acknowledged the fact that he won't be the "Main Hero" and he is nothing but a Pierrot, this is under the impression of his own egotism and expressing his envy of Takemichi, showing his desperate side that he is willing to do what it takes to achieve his desires.
    • To summarize it, Kisaki's "insecurity" of wanting Hinata to accept him and jealousy of Takemichi is nothing more than mere petty reasons of his own selfishly, obsessed desires to keep her for himself, even going as far as to kill her regardless of her rejection of him in the future. It goes to show that if he can't have her, no one will.
  • Despite being claimed by Draken and Naoto from the future that he admired and respected both Takemichi and Mikey, it's made clear that he had no such thing for obvious reasons:
    • First off, he never admired Mikey but only saw him as the perfect pawn to manipulate after taking away his dearest loved ones, with them being Baji and Emma. Additionally, his speech to Mikey after being fired served as indirect evidence and him wanting Mikey to "acknowledge" him was an ironic remark about how he'll kill Emma to break him. Although he was promised by Mikey to stay by his side and questioned if he allowed the latter to further his "dark impulses", it is likely that Kisaki still took advantage of it and corrupted Mikey by his own choice in order to further manipulate him.
    • His respect for Takemichi as a rival is not genuine at all. When he first saw him again after leaving Mikey and joining Toman, he genuinely smirked evilly just to spite the latter and calling him a "hero" was just out of irony in a way of taunting him. Not to mention it's made obviously clear that he utterly hated him for "stealing" Hinata, during his rant he claimed to "respect" him but "betrayed" him for taking her away from him, even going as far as outright killing him just for that. This ultimately proves he had no honor or respect for Takemichi at all. In addition, he was only envious of him because of Hinata and for the wrong reasons. His hatred for Takemichi is also the reason he proclaimed himself as the "Dark Hero", which serves as the polar opposite of Takemichi being a "Hero" as most of Kisaki's actions when "saving" Mikey from a bunch of Valhalla members, his own gang, and "helping" to take down the Black Dragons were only for his own gain, as Takemichi's actions were genuine and heroic in contrast to him. Thus only making Kisaki not only delusional but also very dishonorable.
  • He ultimately has no care for anyone, especially towards his own gang members in Valhalla and Shuji Hanma as well. As he was willing to attack them for his own cause to gain, proven when he kicked Choji aside during Bloody Halloween and when he forced Hanma to drive faster in panic when Takemichi and Draken caught up to them.
  • When Kakucho explained that Izana once drove a gang leader to suicide due to his strength, Kisaki paused and had no other reaction. It's arguably implied to be him having standards, but this was not the case as his future counterpart influenced Akkun to suicide and had no remorse, which is extremely hypocritical. Instead, this is more of Kisaki cowering in fear of how strong Izana was.
  • He utterly lacks genuine redeeming qualities or a tragic background, unlike most antagonists in the series (notably Izana Kurokawa as the prime example), as Kisaki's selfish actions have earned him nothing in the end, and has lacked empathy or remorse for all the people he harmed or killed.
  • While the Third Timeline in the present shows that Takemichi and Mikey manage to reform most of the series' antagonists (excluding Kiyomasa) into joining Toman with Takemichi somehow befriending Kisaki to prevent him from becoming evil offscreen (which was from the second timeline before Shinichiro changed the first timeline). It should be noted that in no way does it automatically make the Kisaki from the second timeline redeemed as well since both of them are different and separate from those timelines due to alternatives.
    • To even help further the point, the narrative does not suggest where or how Kisaki was befriended to prevent him from ever becoming evil due to his obsession with Hinata in the first place.

Exclusive to the Second Timeline[]

  • He first started out helping Nobutaka Osanai to have his gang, Moebius, rise to a higher status. But in actuality, he used him as a "stepping stone" to further his plans of getting into Toman and have some part of using Moebius under Osanai's command indirectly.
  • He would then recruit Shuji Hanma, a rather dangerous delinquent with strength near the same level as Mikey and Draken, and never cared about him as he stated. Even having to say that he is willing to replace him.
  • It was said that he secretly set up the attack of Pah-chin's friend and the latter's girlfriend being raped by several members of Moebius just to provoke a reason for Toman to fight against Moebius. The girlfriend was later seen hospitalized with so many injuries and bruises as her parents blamed Mikey and Draken for this, it shows that Kisaki had no problem with getting innocent bystanders involved and uses this to manipulate Pah-chin later on.
  • He would then manipulate Pah-chin into stabbing Osanai, provoking the latter in an attempt to kill the leader of Moebius as he played with his feelings of vengeance for his friend and the latter's girlfriend. This would later result in Pah-chin's arrest just so he could take his place as the Third Division Captain of Toman as part of his plans.
  • He then convinced Mikey to let him join Toman under conditions of himself proving Pah's innocence, however, this turned out to be a promise he never kept throughout the story and blatantly lied just to ensure he would remain positioned to manipulate Mikey.
  • He orchestrated Draken's ambush and his attempt to assassinate him by recruiting Masataka Kiyomizu and his gang, giving them knives indirectly by a member of Moebius, and then manipulating Peh-yan, Pah's best friend and right-hand, in partaking a role in the plan.
  • He had Hanma instigate a gang fight with Toman and Moebius, all to have Masataka assassinate Draken in the process. However, this fails when Takemichi saves him in time.
  • Upon joining Toman, he provokes Takemichi when grinning at him before having to be punched by him. He would then punch Takemichi in the face under retaliation earlier out of spite to him.
  • He would then manipulate Kazutora Hanemiya into joining Valhalla as part of his plans with Hanma serving as the acting leader to lure in Baji. Though having to be aware of his facade and shouldn't underestimate him, he gave Kazutora a knife under these circumstances.
  • During the fight and event of Bloody Halloween regarding Toman against Valhalla, he had his cronies attempt to attack Mikey just so he perform the act of protecting him to earn the trust of other Toman members. He was even willing to attack his own men in the process.
  • When Baji attacks him as he knew he was the enemy, he had Hamada and some members of Toman at his side to attack him.
  • He would then have Hanma order Kazutora to kill Baji when he was deemed "a traitor", while already knowing of Kisaki's real nature, mentally breaking Kazutora's psyche as he proceeded to stab Baji, giving him a very fatal wound. This act would provoke Mikey to nearly embracing his "dark urges" and nearly kill Kazutora as part of Kisaki's plan to manipulate and corrupt him, as he lied that Kazutora would betray Baji with his guard down in front of all the members of Toman.
    • However, this backfired with Baji sacrificing his own life to prevent Mikey's corruption. Even though he killed himself, Kisaki was still responsible for Baji's decision indirectly but failed with Mikey killing Kazutora and breaking his mental psyche. However, getting Kazutora arrested still made this action worse.
  • He had Hanma and the rest of Valhalla join Toman as part of his plans being furthered into manipulating Mikey.
  • Although he and Hanma had helped Takemichi and Chifuyu to defeat the Black Dragons and prevent Hakkai from killing his older brother Taiju, this was out of pragmatism as he planned on furthering his gain as planned, to which he:
    • Contacted and manipulated Yuzuha, the sister of the Shiba siblings, into killing Taiju to protect Hakkai by giving her a knife, although he only did it to have a way to manipulate Hakkai into serving him when he controls Toman in the future.
    • Had Hanma beat Chifuyu and betray both him and Takemichi, as well as indirectly to Toman, to ensure no interference. Also having to know of Takemichi being very weak and used him as a decoy in the process.
  • After he was found out about his treason by Mikey, he was devastatingly shocked as he pathetically pleads and begs Mikey to reconsider him staying here to prevent him from embracing a "darkness" that he'll embrace for Mikey to "shine". However, this speech was only Kisaki himself indirectly admitting his selfish desires of wanting Toman for himself, as Mikey proceeds to fire him regardless.
  • He would then find and use Izana Kurokawa as a pawn in the latter's own will and have him form their own "Toman", Tenjiku, a gang that targeted all members of Toman and have their members condoned to beat them to near death. He would later taunt Takemichi about upcoming the Kanto Incident and ironically call him "hero."
  • He ultimately crosses the line when he kills Emma, Mikey's younger half-sister, in a hit and run on Hanma's bike as the latter assisted him as he used a metal bat to smack her head down drastically, causing her to bleed at that point. He would then taunt Takemichi that it's over as a way to make Mikey "acknowledge" him, though it is clear he meant corrupting him.
    • Additionally, Emma was Kisaki's first direct kill with no one he requested to do it for him and it was highly the most personal kill as Emma was the very last person Mikey cherished and had at his side to check on his "dark urges" ever since the deaths of their older brother Shinichiro under Kazutora's hands and Baji indirectly by Kisaki's hands. As a result of Emma's death, it left a big impact on Mikey as he finally embraces his dark emotions which corrupted him slowly. It would also make sense since Emma was nowhere mentioned or seen in the future according to Takemichi when he begins to realize this because Emma has been checking on Mikey's mental state almost every day, always comforting him when needed, and was what was left of his happiness before Kisaki not only took away a future where he could've been happy with her along with his friend Draken, who loved Emma. He personally knew killing her would finally break him as he has gained the inability to accept the loss of his half-sister and broke his psyche and morality permanently.
    • Even though Izana was the one who ordered the hit, Kisaki was willing to do it for himself if it meant corrupting Mikey out of spite.
  • He orchestrated the brawl between Toman and Tenjiku out of spite dedicated to taunting Takemichi in their final confrontation.
  • He proceeds to shoot Takemichi in the foot using a gun he had in his possession, attempting to kill him before provoking him once more. Not before Takemichi provoked him back as he called him out for his murder of Emma, physically punching him out of anger.
  • During his breakdown he ranted about how Toman is done and how the gang with Tenjiku will merge to become an even bigger gang with Mikey as its leader, boasting his plan of corrupting Mikey in front of Takemichi.
  • When Kakucho reasons with Izana that they and all of Tenjiku lost, Kisaki ultimately shoots his gun at the former for ruining his plan but he ends up killing Izana when he sacrificed himself for Kakucho, who he was Mikey's older adoptive brother, who he tried to help as Izana was the only person left in Mikey's family. While it was coincidentally unintended, Kisaki did not show any remorse for his death but was shocked that he protected his own friend.
  • Upon escaping with Hanma before fighting Takemichi, instead of giving up on his plans after realizing that he lost, he would justify that his plans worked perfectly before Takemichi intervened and aims a gun at him to finally prepare the kill.
  • He would run off and attempt to escape once Hinata found him alongside Mikey, instead of showing remorse for all of his horrible actions after Takemichi tells him to finally give up, he proudly boasted how he'll start again from square one and ensure that Hinata will turn to him regardless.
  • Even after his death, his actions still broke Mikey's spirit (albeit having to push and make him embrace his "dark urges" further) and it would effectively lead him to his downfall when he made the decision of disbanding Toman and making everyone he knew and love turn against him as a result to corrupting him. In addition, he is indirectly responsible for the formation of Bonten, a dangerous criminal organization Mikey formed in the future after the gang was originally formed as the Kanto Manji Gang and with Mikey now fully corrupted, lacking sleep, having the same appearance as Izana, and lived through the remaining twelve years miserable and sad inside thanks to Kisaki. Even though Mikey spent these years fighting his "dark urges" and making sure everyone he has left is avoided in his situations.
    • Gathering from the given contrasts, all his actions of getting Pah-chin and Kazutora arrested with the worst being the deaths of Baji and Emma, are the utmost results of the consequences if Mikey ever embraced these "dark urges". It is also the result of how this would've been prevented had Takemichi realized Kisaki earlier when he passed by him and stopped him from meeting Mikey before it was too late.
    • Additionally, this also makes him indirectly responsible for Mikey's worst actions of killing South Terano (albeit he deserved it) and causing the disbandment of Brahman when he tried to kill Takemichi during the past timeline.

Shared with his Future Counterparts[]

  • He successfully corrupts and turned Toman into a criminal organization. His position and power would lead some of the members tormented and traumatized psychologically from his abuse, primary example would Akkun, who would be influenced to commit suicide in front of Takemichi as it was something he had no remorse for.
  • He has killed Hinata Tachibana over rejection in numerous ways from different timelines such as:
    • Staging her death by having her crushed a truck in the first and main timeline.
    • Forced Akkun to commit a murder-suicide by driving his car into crashing to the one she was staying in, which was Naoto's car, in the second timeline. What made it worse than just the loss of Hinata was the fact that Akkun had a wife and children implied by Naoto and that Kisaki had his men kidnapped his family in order to coerce Akkun into doing the deed.
    • Manipulating the future Takemichi into ordering Hinata's death unknowingly, resulting in both Akkun's and her death in the third timeline under the same method from the last one previously. This would later lead to Takemichi getting arrested in the process, although saved by Naoto in time.
  • It was implied that he forced Akkun to push Takemichi off the train tracks to kill him, but only ends up making him time-leap as a result.
  • He enforced Draken to kill someone that led him to be sentenced on death row to avenge Emma in the process.
  • He drugged Takemichi and Chifuyu while they were having a drink with him under a facade where he showed remorse for Baji's death before revealing his lie to them. After kidnapping them he prepares to use a gun to shoot and torture both of them for selling him and the organization out to the police, as then he kills Chifuyu in front of Takemichi.
  • It is implied by Kazutora that Kisaki condoned himself and all members of Toman to gambling, drug dealing, money laundering, and even prostitution. Kazutora also quoted "When did Toman become a woman-beating organization" as before he fought three guys from Toman beating a presumed prostitute he saved from being possibly raped by them.
  • He faked his death with the help of Izana and was implied to have been indirectly responsible for Mikey's serial killings of all Toman admins and members alike (such as strangling Mitsuya, burning Hakkai, shooting Chifuyu, stabbing Drakken, etc).
  • He shoots Naoto when he sacrificed himself to Takemichi, leaving himself disappointed before Izana had Kakucho shoot both Takemichi and Naoto as the three left them for dead, much to Kisaki's disgust of not killing them but had no remorse whatsoever.
  • Despite having to shed a tear for Takemichi after killing Chifuyu in a different timeline before killing him, it's arguably implied to be remorse and respect for Takemichi. However, he continues to coldly stare at him for being brave enough to face his death and only called him a "hero" in an ironic way, indicating it to be his way of mocking him.

Trivia[]

  • He is the only Tokyo Revengers villain to be Pure Evil.
  • Only the Second Timeline counterpart of Tetta Kisaki can be considered Pure Evil, as his future counterpart can't since there are more than four of him per different timeline whenever Takemichi intervenes. It should be noted that each of these timelines changed depending on how the events turned out to every time Takemichi changed history and solely has no certain connection between the past timeline despite this. However, Kisaki still remains the same sadistic individual (with exception to the third timeline where he ambiguously shed a tear for Takemichi, though comes off as a way of mocking him), but his crimes changed according to the following:
    • In the first timeline, he manages to succeed in taking over Toman, staged Hinata's death by a truck, and psychologically torment Akkun to suicide at that point.
    • In the second timeline, he got Draken arrested and sentenced to death row, in addition to enforcing Akkun to kill Hinata while also costing the latter his life.
    • In the third timeline, he manipulated the future Takemichi (unaware with his current self in the past) to have Akkun kill Hinata, condoned Toman into committing crimes that are much more worse than what any average gangster would commit, and killed Chifuyu right in front of Takemichi (who came back from the past).
    • In the fourth timeline, he manages to corrupt Mikey and led him to kill all members of Toman under his spree indirectly, faked his death, joined Tenjiku, and shoots Naoto right when he sacrificed for Takemichi before Izana had Kakucho kill them both in a rather slow manner.
      • However, in conclusion, all these crimes can still be shared and go back to the past Kisaki as a result. As it specifies how dire the consequences of his actions will bring to the future.
      • His Third Timeline counterpart also can't be considered Pure Evil since this version is friendlier, is friends with Takemichi, and ultimately lacks the heinous actions in contrast to his original counterpart. This version doesn't apply to be the same as the original since they're both separably different, so it doesn't make the original Kisaki redeemed either way, and even if he might be the same as Kisaki, there's no suggestive direction to where or how he remained to be good and letting go of his obsession for Hinata in the first place.
  • It is unknown if his live-action film counterpart qualifies as Pure Evil, despite having less screentime, he manages to stage the events of Toman vs Moebius. However, while his heinous actions of killing Hinata, together with her brother Naoto, including Akkun's suicide were shown, it is unknown if this Kisaki secretly staged the attack on Pah-chin's friend and indirectly got the latter's girlfriend raped. Additionally, this version here doesn't manipulate Pah-chin into getting arrested for stabbing Osanai and his other heinous acts (e.g. killing Baji through Kazutora, severing the Shiba siblings, and killing Emma) were all omitted. For now, the live-action film counterpart of Kisaki's status is left undetermined, though he may have the potential in the upcoming sequel.
  • As explained by Haruchiyo and Mikey, the curse from Shinichiro's time-leaping abilities he used to intervene in Mikey's death is heavily implied to what caused the series' events and the "dark urges", as well as South's. Because of this, Kisaki is theorized to have "dark urges" given his obsession for Hinata and it's what caused him to commit his actions, this would likely stop him from being Pure Evil. However, it was stated that Mikey had no control over the urges, and so is Kazutora, who caused Shinichiro's death, if their eyes are darkened. Kisaki's case is different since his eyes never darkened whenever he commits his actions and still maintains clear intelligence to his Moral Agency, even if he had something to do with the day Shinichiro gave away his abilities to Takemichi, the narrative never suggests if Kisaki developed "dark urges" and whatever he had done is nothing but a coincidence and something he did out of his own free will, so this never likely to be the case.
