Syr-Darya is a villain who appeared in the 1950s horror comic Web of Mystery, serving as the antagonist of "Syr-Darya's Death Song" in issue #13. She is the former lover of the Mongol emperor Timur whose spirit was bound to her severed head as punishment for her sins, and seeks to break the curse by eliminating the Darya bloodline.

What Makes Her Pure Evil?[]

  • Betrayed her country to the Mongols centuries ago, leading to the entire nation being destroyed.
  • Along with Timur, she enjoyed watching innocents being tortured and executed, even mocking their screams of agony by singing along to them.
  • Her relationship with Timur was based solely on mutual sadism and evil rather than any genuine affection.
  • She killed several descendants who tried to get rid of her severed head in violent and brutal ways. Although not shown, this has on-panel effects as the lack of living Daryas is an important plot point.
  • Before killing her victims, she would torment them by singing her death song for an entire night.
  • She has her demonic henchmen brutalise Adam Johns to near-death when he tries to take her head.
  • She flogs her last living descendant, Oleg Darya, to death in order to break the curse.
  • Faced with eternal damnation in Hell after breaking the curse, she seduces Adam in an attempt to trick him into taking her place.
  • She tries to kill Adam when he rejects her advances.

Trivia[]

  • Along with Ulrik Von Nolte and Lycia, Syr-Darya is one of three Web of Mystery villain to be Pure Evil.
