~ Supreme Intelligence. |
The Supreme Intelligence is the overarching antagonist of the 2019 Marvel Cinematic Universe superhero film Captain Marvel, the unseen overarching antagonist of the 2023 Disney+ miniseries Secret Invasion and the posthumous overarching antagonist of its 2023 sequel The Marvels.
It is a shapeless artificial intelligence and the absolute ruler of the Kree Empire who was the former boss of Carol Danvers aka Captain Marvel. The Supreme Intelligence recruited Danvers into its ranks after she absorbed Mar-Vell's Light-Speed Engine, brainwashing her into hunting the Skrulls, its enemies, down until Danvers comes back to Earth.
In its avatar form and while posing as Wendy Lawson/Mar-Vell, it was portrayed by Annette Bening. In a deleted scene, while posing as Yon-Rogg, it was portrayed by Jude Law.
What Makes It Pure Evil?[]
- As the supreme ruler of the Kree Empire, it tried to expand its empire across galaxies. When a planet refused to yield, the Supreme Intelligence would eradicate the alien race.
- Led a genocidal crusade against the Skrulls and Xandarians, incriminating the Skrulls for the war in the first place and painting them as the bad guys.
- It even went so far as to attack and bomb other planets that housed Skrull refugees.
- Children are also noted to not be spared.
- This makes it ultimately responsible for Gravik's machinations trying to kill humanity and take over Earth as the Skrulls' new home.
- When learning that the Kree scientist Mar-Vell defected from its empire, it sends Starforce to apprehend her and steal her creation the Light-Speed Engine.
- This would lead to Mar-Vell's murder at the hands of Yon-Ragg and Carol Danvers absorbing the energy from the machine, losing her memories in the process.
- It manipulated Carol's memories, rechristening her "Vers" and lying to her about how her family and planet were destroyed by the Skrulls so she would act like her perfect soldier.
- It also put or allowed its men to put an inhibitor chip on her to supress her powers.
- When Captain Marvel learns the truth, it tries to use psychological torture on her, gloating how her powers could easily be stripped from her before engaging her in a fight.
- Despite being comprised of the greatest minds of the Kree Empire, the Supreme Intelligence acts like a singular being with full moral agency and comprehension of human psychology.
- Its tyrannical rule and its genocidal agenda over the galaxy were so terrible that Captain Marvel was only able to stop it by destroying it, devastating Hala for years.
- This act is what gave Dar-Benn authority over the Kree in order to heal Hala, accusing Danvers of being "the annihilator” while never realizing that the Supreme Intelligence was controlling the planet.
- While several other villains like its right-hand Ronan, Thanos, Ego, Arishem the Judge, Infinity Ultron or the High Evolutionary have also tried or committed genocide, they generally fail at doing so or count with far more resources like the Infinity Stones or cosmic powers, allowing the Supreme Intelligence to stand out.
- It's care for the Kree is pretty much nonexistent since it's willing to have Kree that defect the empire killed, lied to them about the Skrulls in order to use them and didn't care that Ronan's carpet bombing of planets also killed whatever Kree forces who were stranded on it.
