Stem (also stylized as STEM) is the deuteragonist/main antagonist of the 2018 US-Australian science-fiction thriller Upgrade.
He was voiced by Simon Maiden.
What Makes Him Pure Evil?[]
- It ordered the attack of a car accident on Grey before killing Grey's wife and paralyzing him in order to take his body.
- It manipulates Grey into thinking Fisk and his thugs were responsible for his wife's death when in reality it did this so it wouldn't be discovered as the true mastermind.
- It killed Serk in a brutal way after finding out they are in his house in order to find evidence about Grey's wife's death before telling Grey to erase evidence about his death.
- It took over Grey's body and beats down Tolan and three other dudes. When Tolan refuses to answer why he killed Grey's wife, Stem tortures him brutally before dying from his wounds.
- After managing to reset thanks to the hacker, It kills Fisk's men before escaping.
- It nearly kills Detective Cortez after being ambushed in Eron's house before getting tazed by her.
- After Cortez reveals the truth to Grey about Stem being the one responsible for everything that happened and want's to kill anyone who knew about its existence, it took control before stabbing Eron with a knife.
- It attempts to shoot Cortez before Grey attempts to kill himself to stop Stem's plan.
- It breaks Grey's mind in order to lock him in his subconscious where he would be with his wife while he took over his body before killing Cortez.
- It didn't do this out of mercy, it's so that Grey won't resist or even realize anything is wrong while Stem uses his body.
- Is far too advanced as an AI to lack a moral agency seeing as it goes beyond it's programming and chooses to be evil on it's own accord.

- While it is currently Pure Evil there is a change it's statue may change once the Upgrade tv series comes out.
