“ | I am the Judge of this universe, and it... is... GUILTY! | „ |
~ Starscream sentencing his universe to total annihilation. |
Starscream is the main antagonist of Transformers Cyberverse, serving as a major antagonist in Season 1, one of the two main antagonists (alongside Megatron) of Season 2, and the main antagonist of the Quintesson Invasion arc of Season 3.
He was the former second-in-command of the Decepticons and commander of the Seekers before a failed attempt to overthrow Megatron led to his death. After being inadvertently revived by Cheetor, he sought to merge with the Allspark to commit genocide against his entire kind, Autobots and Decepticons alike. When that plan failed, he became a Quintesson Judge after betraying his people and the Allspark; he then deemed his universe guilty and sentenced it to death for all the crimes against him.
He was voiced by Billy Bob Thompson, who also does Trypticon in the same series.
What Makes Him Pure Evil?[]
In General/Background[]
- Even compared to many versions of Starscream who even if remaining genuine threats have loads of comedy lobied against them, this version lacks even such comedy against him and remain fully serious throughout.
- Unlike Megatron, he is always happy and proud about the crimes he commits.
- Even before the Great War, Starscream was already a petty bully and supremacist who viewed anyone with land-based alternate modes as inferior to him.
Season 2[]
- While Megatron was a bad boss and gave him a very brutal death, Starscream ultimately brought all of his misery onto himself due to his cowardice and betraying Megatron by leaving him for dead in order to usurp his position, which led to Megatron killing him. Even if the brutality of his death was excessive, being beaten down to a pulp before being shot with a laser, it definitely doesn't excuse any of Starscream's future crimes later which takes his hatred from being understandable to laughably petty. This makes him an even worse boss than Megatron could ever be.
- Upon becoming leader of the Decepticons, Starscream makes a personal attempt to thrust the Moon onto the Earth to destroy it and claim the Allspark from the remains, ending all life on the planet.
- After being inadvertently revived by Cheetor, Starscream steals the Allspark and seeks to merge with it, planning to use its power to commit genocide against his own kind by absorbing the sparks of all Cybertronians, Autobots and Decepticons alike. This was before he became a Quintesson Judge, proving he was already vile even before becoming one.
- While he claims it is for good intentions to unite everyone to create a better world, it is obvious this is just him justifying his egotistical desires to become the god and ruler of all Cybertronians, having outright said "I AM the Allspark".
- He starts said genocide by putting all the Autobots and Decepticons in a fate worse than death by having his scraplets drain them of all their energon, leaving them completely immobilized while still having their sparks. He plans on releasing their sparks, i.e killing them later, when he feels like it.
- Orchestrates a battle to the death between Jetfire and Sky-Byte to buy himself time to remerge with the Allspark.
- He restarts his Cybertronian genocide by killing all of his loyal Seekers solely because he views them as useless to him now that he has successfully merged with the Allspark. He puts them in extreme pain in the process, making him an even worse boss than Megatron. At least Megatron would kill only because his subordinates failed him, while sparing the majority of them.
- Starts a Hate Plague within the Autobots, making them fight and possibly each other solely for his amusement.
Season 3[]
- Sells out Cybertron and the Allspark (which is the afterlife & source of life to his kind) to be destroyed the Quintessons solely to save his own skin, to which they reward him by turning him into a Judge, causing the entire Quintesson invasion.
- Unlike the other Quintesson Judges, who at least pretend to be impartial in their judgement of each universe as being guilty, Starscream himself claims that he is sentencing it to death for all the crimes against him, having his universe destroyed solely out of petty spite.
- While his transformation into a Judge might have nullified his moral agency, other than that he was already a vile villain beforehand, Starscream was always the dominating head, and clearly leading the attacks even after all the other major Quintessons are dead.
- While he delays the official verdict of his universe, it is solely out of sadism and pettiness as he wants Optimus Prime and Megatron present to hear the verdict and kneel before him; only then would he make his verdict official. This is something even the Quintesson Scientist questioned as he tells him they are already behind schedule and that the universe will be annihilated anyway when the verdict is made official.
- This shows how Starscream manages to stand out from the rest of the Quintessons as even they question Starscream's pettiness in his vile actions.
- He tortures Arcee by electrocuting her. When Arcee says she can take it, Starscream attempts to torture her even more to the point where she would die.
- Forces Hot Rod and Soundwave on a mind game to clean up and escape before the Cosmic Rust gets and kills them.
- Decapitates Iaconus by covering his head in Unspace goo, instantly disintegrating his head.
- He then has Croaton destroy Iacon City, the city of Iaconus, when there were multiple fleeing Cybertronians present, killing most if not all of them.
- Shows no remorse when he ends up killing some of the loyal Sharkticons in the crossfire when killing many Cybertronians.
- When Optimus and Megatron enter the battlefield and empower everyone, Starscream decides to destroy the universe himself by launching the Unspace goo, killing even more Cybertronians present. He is also willing to endanger many of the loyal Sharkticons near them until he winds up getting killed by the combined power of Optimus Prime and Megatron's matrices. However his death wasn't played for any sympathy as he truly deserved it for his unforgivable actions against his own species.
Trivia[]
- This is, alongside his Galaxy Force, Film Series, Aligned and Animated incarnations, one of five incarnations of Starscream to be Pure Evil.
- This is also, alongside his Aligned, Prime Wars, and Film Series incarnations, one of the four incarnations of Starscream to prove himself to be more despicable than Megatron, barring his alternate universe counterpart, and is the only one that managed to pull off his Eviler than Thou on Megatron and warrant two alliances between the Autobots and Decepticons.
- Originally, there was a plan in which Starscream would have survived his death in The End of the Universe IV and would've ultimately redeemed himself. Had this plan made it to the final cut, he would be stripped of his Pure Evil status.
- His status as a Pure Evil villain was likely unintended by the filmmakers, as staff writer Mae Catt confirmed that Starscream was intended to be portrayed as a victim of abuse, though this tragedy doesn't hold up in the show because of how even before joining Megatron he was always a petty bully and most of his misery is self-inflicted.
