The Staff Leader is a nameless antagonist in the Higurashi: When They Cry series. He is a rather minor character, but he did play a significant role in Miyo Takano's upbringing.

What Makes Him Pure Evil[]

  • Abused his power and authority at the orphanage. Treating the children harshly and cruelly, even allowing his employees to do the same.
  • Beaten up Miyo when she first arrived at the orphanage, mourning for her parents. Keeping her quiet.
  • Whenever one of the children does something that is not wrong or didn't concentrate on their tasks, are often lashed out by him and he would "punish" them.
  • Ordered his men to go after Miyo and the other escaped children. When he attempts to grab Miyo, she bit his finger, resulting in bleeding.
  • After capturing the children, he then again, allowed his men to punish them through torture and cruel acts of assault. But his biggest and worst punishment for Eriko was his Moral Event Horizon: Covered her body with seeds for the chickens to ravenously eat her alive, killing her under the process.
  • Forced Miyo and shoved her head on the filthy stalls in the outhouse, making her clean it with her tongue until Dr. Takano arrived to pick her up.
  • He was the main reason why Miyo is a villain.
  • He lacks of redeeming qualities, entirely, and has no remorse for his atrocities whatsoever. He could be considered as the most hated character in Higurashi: When They Cry and it is unknown what happened to him and his employees after the story. It is most likely they continued abusing the children and got off with their crimes with no punishment and got off scot-free.

Trivia[]

  • Given the graphic nature of the manga volumes heavily centered around Takano's backstory, most of the Orphanage's worst actions aren't depicted in the anime adaptation. As such, it can be assumed that Eriko survived.
  • It's unknown if his anime version would be pure evil, since most of the murders are offscreen.
  • It's possible he killed Tomomi and Kikuko off screen.
  • It is possible that he and the orphanage employees hid the corpses of the children who was murdered
  • The Orphanage's fate is currently left unknown after Miyo left, it's assume they are still in operation or shut down.
  • Him, Nomura and Eua are the three Pure Evils in the Higurashi universe.
