To rebuild my city, we need all the help we can get. Now is the time for healing, Sandy. Not for reopening old wounds. Because when you pick at a scab, all you get is bloody. You understand, don't you, Sandy?
~ SpongeBob confronting Sandy after she discovered that he is the mastermind and cloned himself.

SpongeBob SquarePants is one of the two overarching antagonists (alongside Mr. Krabs) of the fan webcomic The Bikini Bottom Horror.

He's a sentient sponge living in a pineapple under the sea, who was revealed to be secretly acting as the mastermind behind the events of the entire comic, planning to take over Bikini Bottom and paint himself as the hero.

What Makes Him Pure Evil?[]

  • While he still has Gary as a pet, there's nothing that proves that he cares for him, and considering the fact that he showed no remorse for endangering Gary debunks the possibility that he cared for him.
  • He seems to get along with his clones, thanking one as he says he finished an order. However, considering the clones are his minions and the door was open to the customers outside, this may be a façade to keep them on his side and/or hide who he truly is or sheer pragmatism.
    • Further more, it's highly likely that these clones are extensions of SpongeBob's will and consciousness since unlike the Tortured One, SpongeBob has total control of every cell in his body.
  • His face as Sandy angrily leaves his restaurant has a sad look, implying he is remorseful for his actions ending one of his best friendships. However, he may have only been sad at Sandy not sharing his vision rather than genuine remorse, since he was just shown gloating in Sandy's face about how he would rebuild Bikini Bottom, and he threatened to kill her (and anyone she told his secret to) if she does anything to stop him.
    • He also might be sad because he understands that he lost almost all his friends. However, yet again, it is left ambiguous so far.
  • After learning that Mr. Krabs is using a tortured Patrick Star clone for Krabby Patties, he purposefully undercooked a Krabby Patty and fed it to Patrick so he could gain the memories and pain of the Tortured One. He also made no attempt to rescue the clone from his torment, instead exploiting the Tortured One's torment and rampage.
  • Knowing that he can regenerate from a single cell and that Patrick is a messy eater, he fakes his death as supposedly the first victim of Patrick's rampage, and he lets him and all the clones created rampage and murder countless people across Bikini Bottom, specifically planning to get Mr. Krabs and Plankton killed so that he can open a restaurant selling veganized Pretty Patties and run the only restaurant in Bikini Bottom.
    • Noticeably, the entire rampage left so many citizens dead that the survivors had to create five giant walls to list all the names. Some of the fallen include Mr. Krabs (although Sandy admits he got what he deserved), Mermaid Man, Plankton, Larry the Lobster, Bubble Bass, Squilliam (as his spirit was seen during one of Squidward's near-death experiences), Karen and Barnacle Boy, most of whom were killed gruesomely.
  • When he meets the Tortured One inside his mind, who rightfully calls him out for letting him suffer (despite not actually knowing it), SpongeBob outright pulls the victim card by denying any responsibility of his involvement and lies by saying he didn't know.
    • He's also shown to be a hypocrite, as he calls out the Tortured One that Mr. Krabs torturing him doesn't excuse his actions and claims that he's worse than anything Krabs has done to him, despite that SpongeBob himself secretly knew of Krabs' crimes and didn't do anything to bring him to justice or help the Tortured One out of his torment. Granted, it's likely that SpongeBob is just pretending to call him out here and making himself look good in front of the others.
  • He brutally kills the Tortured One by throwing him into a pit of lava (though he arguably deserved it since he lashed out at innocent people instead of just SpongeBob and Mr. Krabs).
    • While he does seemingly feel bad for killing the Tortured One, telling him he's sorry right before killing him, this was more likely a way of taunting him than actual remorse, as he seems unaffected by this action as evidenced that he never mentions it in his final confrontation with Sandy after she finds out about his true nature.
  • Although he did spare a guilty Patrick and end the rampage by killing the Tortured One and all the other Patrick clones, it was out of pragmatism as he wanted to paint himself as the hero of the day.
  • Though he created at least twenty-one clones of himself to help rebuild Bikini Bottom and doesn't try to hurt anyone there, it's only out of pure pragmatism and it's also implied that they could also help him create another Porifera in case someone tried to put a stop to his plan.
  • His role in the Bikini Bottom massacre indirectly convinces a broken Sandy to leave and return home to Texas, and thus he gets away with everything scot-free.
  • His true nature is the complete opposite of the original character, who is mostly nice, sweet, loves his parents and friends, and good-hearted with everyone. This version of SpongeBob is absolutely evil, twisted, remorseless, dark, heartless and overall cares about nobody but himself.

Trivia[]

  • He's a rare example of a hidden PE, as almost all the heroes do not know and never find out about his true colors, whereas most hidden PEs are masked.
  • He's also one of the few Pure Evils to be friends with a Pure Good hero, that being Squidward Tentacles, though it's likely either a facade, or he keeps him as a friend out of pure pragmatism.
  • Only his webcomic version counts as PE because his counterpart from the animated series version of The Bikini Bottom Horror genuinely cares for his friends and accidentally gave Patrick an under cooked Patty unlike how this iteration did it on purpose.
  • He's so far, the only version of SpongeBob to be Pure Evil, as well as one of two Pure Evils from SpongeBob SquarePants, along with THE SECRET FORMULA's Mr. Krabs, both coming from fan works rather than the original series.
  • SpongeBob is one of the few characters to have both a Pure Evil and a Pure Good version (the one from Mr. Krabs' Unquenchable Blood Lust), also both coming from fan works rather than the original series.
  • It seems that the author of The Bikini Bottom Horror plans to make a sequel. If the sequel is published, it may affect SpongeBob's Pure Evil status.
  • It's unknown whether or not he truly cared for Sandy, since the comic's author refused to confirm either theory, so it's left ambiguous. However, one of the said theories could be confirmed in the sequel.
