~ Dojima to Makoto, before Lao Gui shoots her |
Sohei Dojima is one of the overarching antagonists in the Yakuza Saga of the Like a Dragon (Ryū ga Gotoku, formerly known as Yakuza in the west) franchise.
He is the main antagonist of the prequel Yakuza 0, and one of the overarching antagonists of Yakuza (and its remake Yakuza Kiwami) and Yakuza 2 (and its remake, Yakuza Kiwami 2).
He is the cruel patriach of the Dojima Family, the most powerful factor in the Tojo Clan during the events of Yakuza 0. During Yakuza 0, Dojima wants to acquire a small piece of land in the city of Kamurocho known as the Empty Lot, due to that land being worth a lot of money, and him acquiring the Lot would secure him a place as the Tojo Clan's Third Chairman. He's the arch-enemy of his captain, Shintaro Kazama and father of Daigo Dojima.
He is voiced by Hisao Egawa.
What Makes Him Pure Evil?[]
In General[]
- Sohei is best known for his absolute cruelty and callous regard for life, as he was willing to commit all sorts of atrocities to get what he wants. In fact, Sohei has one of the highest kill counts, directly or indirectly, in the entire series.
- In Yakuza 2, his wife Yayoi even admits he slept around with other women, proving he has no loyalty to her despite them being married.
Past[]
- 26 years prior to the events of Yakuza 2, he ordered a massacre of a Korean mob known as the Jingweon Mafia, sending out Futoshi Shimano and Shintaro Kazama, his top subordinates at the time, to wipe them out. This massacre had 33 casualties and left the Jingweon Mafia vengeful, leading to the events that took place in Yakuza 2.
- Wiping out the Jingweon Mafia also led the Dojima family to take Kamurocho and further increase his family's power.
- Although the Jingweon Mafia were a dangerous criminal organization and ultimately did cause the conflict with the Tojo Clan in the first place, this still doesn't justify Sohei's order of wiping them all out. Even Kazama was against it, believing there should be another way.
Yakuza 0[]
- He framed Kazuma Kiryu for a murder in the Empty Lot in hopes of getting his adoptive father Kazama expelled from the Tojo Clan.
- When Kiryu and Jun Oda go to Little Asia to seek refugee from the Dojima Family, Elder Chen reveals Dojima, prior to the events of the series, was involved in a brutal raid on his Chinese immigration population, where many women and children were murdered, causing Chen to distrust the yakuza.
- After his hitman Lao Gui finds Tetsu Tachibana, the president of Tachibana Real Estate, he allows Daisaku Kuze, one of his family's lietunenants, alongside the Kenno Clan and Yoneda to torture Tachibana to find out the location of Makoto Makimura, the owner of the Empty Lot and Tachibana's sister, which leads to Yoneda killing Tachibana, making Dojima indirectly responsible for Tachibana's death.
- When Makoto goes up to Dojima herself to make a deal with him, stating that she will give him the Empty Lot if he gets her the heads of all three of his lieutenants, whom are responsible for Tachibana's death, Dojima turns down her offer and gets Lao Gui to shoot her, all while cruelly taunting her.
- He allowed and helped Shibusawa to order a complete cleanse of any Tojo Clan member that has ties to Kazama, sending out members of the Dojima Family into Kamurocho to wipe out Kazama's allies.
- When he discovers Goro Majima is opposing him, he sends out Lao Gui to get rid of him, while saying he has to kill his boss Futoshi Shimano as well.
Yakuza/Yakuza Kiwami[]
- During the events of the first Yakuza, after his powers crumbles due to Masaru Sera obtaining the Empty Lot and thus becoming the Tojo Clan's Third Chairman instead of him, he spitefully kidnaps Kiryu's childhood friend Yumi and attempts to rape her, something he has been to said to do to several other drunk women. This causes Nishikiyama to murder him in order to save Yumi, which causes Kiryu to go to prison for 10 years to take the fall for Nishiki and in turn, sets up everything that happens for the rest of Yakuza, mainly Nishiki's downfall to villainy.
