Smaug is the main antagonist of Rankin/Bass's film adaptation of The Hobbit.
He is an evil dragon who took over Erebor and stole its treasure.
He was voiced by the late Richard Boone.
What Makes Him Pure Evil?[]
- In the Kingdom of Dale, he killed numerous Dwarves and drove the men of Dale out of their town, leading to at least decades of the Dwarves being homeless.
- When Smaug asks Bilbo why he confronted him, Bilbo states revenge. and Smaug later mocks him.
- He decides to destroy Laketown as "revenge", leading to countless innocent people dying.
- He tried to kill Bilbo and the heroes near the end of the movie before Bard sley him with the black arrow.
- Unlike the original version of Smaug who has a few comedic moments, this version has none and is taken ultimately seriously. He also lacks a tragedy and/or redeeming qualities.
