Pure Evil Wiki

They laughed at us, but now it's our turn to laugh back. Embrace your inner Lemon. Let it drive you. This was meant to be alternative fuel's greatest moment. After today, everyone will race back to gasoline and we, the owners of the largest untapped oil reserve, will become the most powerful cars in the world! They'll come to us and they'll have no choice, because they will need us. And, they will finally respect us! So, hold your hoods high! After today, you will never again be ashamed of who you are! Long live Lemons!

How did the tow truck figure it out?
~ Sir Miles Axlerod's last words, wondering how his arch-enemy managed to expose him.

Sir Miles Axlerod is the main antagonist of Pixar's 12th full-length animated feature film Cars 2.

He is initially presented as the charming and well-intentioned honest host of the Grand Prix, a race created to demonstrate his "environmentally friendly" alternative fuel Allinol. However, deep down, Axlerod is the relentless and callous terrorist kingpin of the Lemons, a group of "loser" cars who want to tarnish the reputation of Allinol (which turned out to be a scam) and alternative fuel as a whole, so that they could prosper and make a profit by selling oil. He was the CEO of Axlerod Industries and is the archenemy of Mater.

He was voiced by the genderfluid actor Eddie Izzard.

What Makes Him Pure Evil?

  • Throughout the movie, Axlerod does all his crimes indirectly, and if he does it himself, it's off-screen, to the point that Axlerod isn't seen or even heard doing as much as ordering a crime. However, his presence is still felt throughout the movie and everything everyone else does is completely on Axlerod's orders, therefore he still has an impact.
  • Blamed Mater for leaking oil at the party in Tokyo, while this might not be as bad as some of his other crimes, this action indirectly led to Mater inadvertently becoming a spy.
  • He recruited the Lemons to work for him by using their background of being laughed at by cars that worked right, as he is a lemon car himself because he has the worst motor ever made.
    • To make matters worse, he didn't reveal to any lemons his real identity to make sure that he wasn't found out. Not even Zundapp knew his real name. He and the other lemons only knew him as Kingpin.
    • In simpler terms, he played both the public and the lemons off each other with none of the lemons noticing that he was in charge of the WGP. This is evident when he appears on the TV and none of the lemons or Zundapp recognize him.
  • He invented Allinol, which was supposedly alternative fuel, but was actually a highly explosive type of gasoline he would use in his World Grand Prix as his plan to make alternative fuel look bad. Allinol was the required fuel for the race cars, which would cause their engines to be ignited and explode upon contact with an electromagnetic pulse. Not only that, but it was also designed to kill cars outright in some cases, such as Rod "Torque" Redline (which was successful) and Lightning McQueen (which wasn't). The only reason McQueen survived was because Sarge swapped the allinol fuel with Fillmore's biofuel. And the lemons were hitting the WGP racers with only 75% of the power of the EMP Ray, and not the 100% that was used on Redline which was deadly.
  • Using Zündapp, Grem, and Acer, Axlerod orchestrates massive crashes on his World Grand Prix, a racing competition he created to hide his scheme of turning the world against alternative energy and having them rely on gasoline, all to make them respect him.
    • These car crashes are especially dark considering that the cars themselves are sapient, and with the racers' engines exploding upon impact of the electromagnetic pulse, it is torturous and would have them hospitalized between the races.
    • To sum this up, he ultimately tortured his own racers through this act, which makes it even more heinous.
  • He gives the order for the death of Lightning McQueen, meaning he manipulated him to enter the race, which makes it dishonorable.
    • What worse is that he thanked McQueen for using Allinol and wished him luck instead of trying to convince him that he wouldn't sell Allinol anymore and, so, trying to save him.
  • He plants a bomb on Mater's hood to kill him in a gruesome explosion. His first plan was that Zündapp would detonate the bomb from afar, but his second plan was that the bomb would explode in a countdown, knowing that Mater would try to warn McQueen. It's heavily implied that the bomb would cause a wide-range death toll of dozens of innocent civilians and not just WGP racers.
  • Implies that he also plans to blame Zündapp for planting the bomb on Mater's hood (one of the few things Zündapp doesn't do). While Zündapp was more evil than Axlerod, nobody deserves to be blamed for something they didn't actually do.
  • He hides his true nature at the entire storyline of the movie until Mater exposes him as a fraud, meaning that Axlerod was the mastermind as the leader of the lemons, created Allinol for vengeance on cars who worked right, and lied about changing his engine into an electric car.
  • As for his minion Professor Z, both of them show no care to each other as they are being merely professional, and even though he may have been humiliated in the past for being a lemon, it comes off as a petty excuse compared to all of his crimes. Former also confirms by that fact that Zündapp doesn't know who Lemon Kingpin is and a hint on that Axlerod tried to blame Zündapp in his crimes.
  • While not sadistic and shows no pleasure in torturing others like his right-hand car Zündapp does, Axlerod also shows no remorse for his actions either, as he had his WGP racers harmed as part of his plan to turn the world against alternative energy and rely on gasoline.
  • Whilst he does deactivate the bomb on Mater's hood, thus unwillingly saving everyone within the vicinity, he only does this to save his own skin, showing his cowardliness.
    • Even when he was caught by the police (at which point he had nowhere to go but jail) he still didn't show any remorse for what he had done and simply asked "How did the tow-truck figure it out?" before never being seen again.

  • Even though Axlerod was the main antagonist, the moment he was revealed, he was immediately arrested, making the impact of his evil actions much more horrible.
  • While Zil was originally going to be the main antagonist of Cars 2, Axlerod was given the role instead while Zündapp was given most of his traits. If Zil remained the main antagonist of Cars 2, it is quite possible that he would've been Pure Evil.
  • Due to his true nature being shown only at the end of the film (20 seconds before he is never seen again) and the fact that he is not sadistic, some people say he doesn't qualify as he hasn't done onscreen villainy effects coming off as not heinous enough to qualify. However, this is not true as Sir Miles Axlerod caused lots of innocent racers to be hurt by Allinol, even Lightning McQueen by using his Allinol and hero facade to manipulate innocents into being harmed and make alternative fuel look bad and that fact that he planted a bomb on Mater's hood whilst offscreen still had onscreen effects.
  • He is one of the two Cars Villains to be Pure Evil, the other being Professor Zündapp.
  • He is a rare Pure Evil example as despite the fact that his true nature was only shown at the end of the film with only twenty seconds of his true nature shown to the audience (and never showing any enjoyment), he still qualifies as his hero facade was directly causing all the destruction by lying that allinol is safe, then eventually leading McQueen to death in an attempt to prove allinol safe.
