~ Benedict’s villainous breakdown after Auri is revived and the Phoenix Egg hatches. |
Sir Benedict Cumbersnatch, initially known as the Mysterious Voice, is the main antagonist of Sunset Paradise, a spin-off of the web series SMG4.
He was a powerful monster trapped in the form of an anthropomorphic egg who served as a crime lord controlling the criminal underworld of Port Aurora. He was the boss of Whisk, the Spud Buds, and the Funky Fource, and the archenemy of Auri Bori, as well as the killer of his grandfather Aloysius Bori, who transformed him into an egg in the first place.
He is voiced by Edwyn Tiong, who also played Nazo the Hedgehog in Sonic: Nazo Unleashed.
What Makes Him Pure Evil?[]
- In the past, he was a powerful crime boss who came to Port Aurora so he could steal the Phoenix Egg to become immortal and build a criminal empire. While the effects of this aren't shown on-screen, he was so dangerous that Aloysius turned him into an egg in the first place.
- He killed Aloysius in the past, and enjoys mocking his grandson Auri about it.
- In spite of being quite funny in the first couple of episodes, he was still taken seriously, and by the time of the finale he had lost all his comedic traits and had become completely serious.
- In fact, most of his comedic moments related to his henchmen, thus he is taken seriously In-Universe.
- In the first episode, he strangled Yam for failing to kill Meggy and Auri, then threatened to kill the Spud Buds should they fail him again.
- He often berates the Goonie holding his screen whenever it acts polite, to its sadness.
- He had planned to have the Funky Fource use Meggy to assassinate Mayora Bora.
- Although he says to the Funky Force that he will spare Joe Fresh's family since they did what he wanted, it should be noted that it was only because he needed to do it to be able to make them work for him, and there is no proof that he was saying the truth.
- He broke into Auri's house and freed his henchmen, who rejoined him once again, but he didn't care about them in the long run.
- In this said incident, he also blew up Aloysius’ ashes.
- He attempted to kill Meggy and Auri with an explosive, while they did survive the explosion, Meggy's camera with her friends photos gets destroyed because of it.
- Finding that he couldn't get into the lighthouse since it had a barrier which only let in those who were pure of heart, Benedict got his Goonies to force the barrier open by using innocent children.
- He took over the city and caused a crime wave, putting propaganda posters everywhere.
- He was indirectly responsible for the murder of Mayora Bora, due to the fact that he is the commander of the Funky Fource.
- He called Meggy and Auri monsters for killing his Goonies, only to quip that he just trained them during an afternoon, showing that he doesn't care about them. He's also hypocritical in this statement as he was willing to kill without remorse to achieve his goals.
- When Benedict was about to kill Meggy and Auri sacrificed himself to save her, he gleefully boasted that Aloysius had failed and that he'd killed his grandson, saying he'd won.
- He threatens to kill Whisk (or in his words, have her mother pay her debts for her) if she doesn’t kill Auri and Meggy, causing Whisk to abandon him.
- After breathing in the fear gas and mistaking Auri for Aloysius, he outright kills himself to escape arrest.
- In his karmic afterlife, he couldn't care less about reforming as he still insulted Whisk when he saw her through a projection.
- He is the only villain in Sunset Paradise to have no redeeming qualities unlike his henchmen, with the Spud Buds being incompetent, Duke only working for him due to peer pressure, Whisk wanting to pay her debts and urging Meggy to stay away from the fight, the Funky Fource being affected by their brother Joe Fresh's death and working for Benedict to fund Joe's funeral, and the Goonies are polite but mindlessly follow whoever yells at them loudest. Benedict, on the other hand, just wanted to build a criminal empire and become immortal, not caring about anyone but himself in the end.
- Whilst he may not be as heinous as Niles, he has far fewer resources than him, as all he has is a criminal organization and intelligence in comparison to Niles’ wide array of powers. Benedict is also a spin-off character from a series with lower heinous standards, being able to pass them. He also demonstrates zero redeeming qualities whatsoever, as Niles at least cares for SMG0 and has a sympathetic death.
Trivia[]
- Due to Sunset Paradise being a spin-off of the series, Benedict is the first and so far the only SMG4 villain to be Pure Evil.
