Shinnok is one of the four main antagonists (alongside Shao Kahn, Shang Tsung, and Quan Chi) of the Mortal Kombat franchise.
He is one of the Elder Gods that fell from grace and was banished into the dreaded Netherrealm after he attempted to conquer the Earthrealm as well as the rest of the realms and even tried to overthrow his fellow deities. Shinnok is the son of the great Titan Kronika and the brother of fellow Elder God Lady Cetrion. Shinnok is also forever worshiped by an ancient and fanatic cult of demons and evil conjurers known as the Brotherhood of Shadow.
He is one of the most powerful villains from the Mortal Kombat series of fighting games. He first appeared in Mortal Kombat Mythologies: Sub-Zero, where he served as the secondary antagonist. He is also the main antagonist of Mortal Kombat 4, a major antagonist in Mortal Kombat: Armageddon, a mentioned character in Mortal Kombat vs. DC Universe, the overarching antagonist of Mortal Kombat (2011), the main antagonist of Mortal Kombat X, a minor yet pivotal antagonist in Mortal Kombat 11, and a cameo character in its DLC story mode, Mortal Kombat 11: Aftermath.
He is the known maker of the legendary Amulet of Shinnok, a talisman with powers beyond comprehension and also one of the Elder Gods' sacred relics known as the Kamidogu which helped make reality possible.
What Makes Him Pure Evil?[]
In General[]
- While created by Kronika to be evil and to be the archenemy of his sister, Cetrion, he became evil of his own free will. Both Elder Gods are indeed evil, but Cetrion does have a sense of honor and a lot of morals and she is insecure about her morality deep within. But Shinnok willingly does heinous actions and doesn't seem to have an internal struggle whatsoever.
Pre-Armageddon[]
- Betrayed his fellow Elder Gods for power.
- Launched a massive invasion on Earthrealm in the past which is said to have nearly wiped it out.
- He along with Quan Chi overthrew and killed Lucifer and took over the Neartherrealm.
- Tyrannically ruled the Neatherrealm for centuries keeping it as a horrible place where countless were tortured for all of eternity.
- Invaded the Heavens to seize control of Earthrealm.
- As an act of vengeance, he plans to murder all the Elder Gods and Raiden, who he really hates.
- Woke up Daegon early and then manipulated him into killing his parents.
Post-Armageddon[]
- Alongside Quan Chi, he manipulated Shao Kahn to invade Earthrealm, leading to many deaths.
- After Quan Chi resurrects fallen heroes as his revenants, Shinnok unleashes them and his demons to wreck havoc in Earthrealm.
- While viewing Quan Chi as his loyal servant, Shinnok didn't take him very long when he got over Quan Chi's death at the hands of Scorpion when claimed that it was a pity that Quan Chi didn't live to see his work was completed despite Quan Chi freed him from his Amulet.
- Kidnaps Johnny Cage so he can't interfere with his plans.
- Corrupts Earthrealm’s Jinsei (life force).
- Attempts to kill Johnny Cage in front of his own daughter Cassie Cage.
- Intends to awaken the One Being by merging the realms. Which will mean wiping out existence itself, including his fellow Elder Gods.
- Has no excuse for his actions besides wanting more and more power.
- While tortured by the corrupted Raiden, Shinnok mocked Raiden he should thank him because he is wearing his amulet and seeing the truth that the Elder Gods denies.
- Despite his head being decapitated by Raiden, he is indirectly responsible for the events of Mortal Kombat 11.
