The Sheriff of Nottingham is the main antagonist of the 1991 adventure film Robin Hood: Prince of Thieves. He is the cruel, tyrannical ruler of Nottinghamshire and the archenemy of Robin of Loxley, better known as Robin Hood.
He was portrayed by the late Alan Rickman, who also portrayed Hans Gruber in Die Hard and Judge Turpin in Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street.
What Makes Him Pure Evil?[]
- He forcibly takes over Nottinghamshire.
- In the uncut version. he worships the devil.
- He has Duncan blinded.
- He rules with cruelty, brutalizing and starving innocent peasants.
- He murders Robin Hood's father.
- He conspires with Guy of Gisbourne to usurp King Richard's throne.
- He makes several unwelcome advances to Marian, wanting her only to cement his claim to the throne.
- He conspires Mortianna to make Marian love him with dark magic.
- He murders Gisbourne, his own cousin, for his failure to catch Robin Hood.
- He sends an army of Celts on an unsuccessful mission to kill Robin Hood and his Merry Men.
- He threatens to kill the Merry Men unless Maid Marian agrees to be his bride. Once she agrees, he orders them to be executed anyway.
- He tries, unsuccessfully, to have Robin and his men hanged.
- He attempts to rape Marian after forcing her to marry him.
- He tries, unsuccessfully, to duel Robin to the death.
