~ The Narrator describing Sharptooth's thoughts in the novel. |
Sharptooth is the main antagonist of Jim Razzi's novelization of Don Bluth's 3rd animated feature film The Land Before Time. He is a homicidal Tyrannosaurus rex that seeks to cause death and destruction, as well as revenge on Littlefoot and the others for damaging his eye.
While he is given little to no character in the animated film, the novelization goes more into detail on his personality and motives. Furthermore, since the novelization is set in its own continuity, this version of Sharptooth has no other antagonists to compete with, and for this reason also meets the Heinous Standards of the story.
What Makes Him Pure Evil?[]
- He's a serial killer who has been killing dinos not only for food, but out of sadism.
- He has killed every longneck aside from Littlefoot, his mother and grandparents.
- Tried to kill a young Littlefoot and Cera.
- He kills Littlefoot's mother, leaving him orphaned and filled with grief.
- Continues to torment Littlefoot and his friends throughout the book by constantly pursuing them, stopping at nothing even though he had little pragmatic reason to pursue them due to them being small and not providing much food for him.
- He enters The Great Valley to not only kill Littlefoot and his friends, but also to slaughter all the inhabitants there out of sadism.
- The novelization implies that Sharptooth is doing what he does out of sadism more so than for food:
- After Littlefoot accidentally scars the beast, the narrator makes it clear that the Sharptooth is pursuing them out of anger as he describes "...his one good eye glinting with hatred", despite the fact that Littlefoot is just a child and scarring him was an accident.
- Once Sharptooth finds the entrance to the Great Valley, he sniffs the air with "evil joy", showing his intent on murdering anything in his way for fun.
