NOTE: Because of the events that happened in Mortal Kombat: Armageddon, there have been more than a single timeline for the mainstream version of the character, therefore making this a composite profile.

I am no refugee! I am Kahn of Outworld. VACATE MY THRONE, OR I'LL SOAK THESE SANDS WITH YOUR BLOOD!
~ Shao Kahn.
The Elder Gods fear me now. Their pathetic Mortal Kombat shackles me no longer. They masquerade as dragons, but are mere toothless worms. I know you can feel it... It is the end of all things.
~ Shao Kahn while fighting Raiden.
I conquered history like I conquered realms; merging billions of potential timelines into a Singularity. The universe has been remade in my image and all is as it should be. The weak serve the strong. The strong compete for power, wealth, and my favor in Mortal Kombat. For centuries the tournament's champion has gone undefeated. That champion... IS ME! Hail the Conqueror! HAIL SHAO KAHN!!
~ Shao Kahn in his Mortal Kombat 11 ending.

Shao Kahn, also referred to as Emperor Shao Kahn and The Conqueror, is one of the four main antagonists (alongside Shinnok, Shang Tsung, and Quan Chi) of the Mortal Kombat franchise.

He is the oppressive Emperor of Outworld, with the desire to take over every realm there is, and a lustful obsession in conquering Earthrealm.

What Makes Him Pure Evil?[]

Pre-Armageddon[]

  • He poisoned his former master Onaga, even though the latter gave him great power and privilege.
  • He merged with many realms in the past, including Osh-Tekk, Zaterra, Vaeternus and the Arnyek Islands.
  • He set his sights on Edenia, then merged and conquered the realm. He also murdered the Edenian ruler King Jerrod and took his wife as his own, as well as their daughter to raise as an assassin.
  • Had Shang Tsung and Goro take control of the Earthrealm tournaments where many fighters were killed so Shao Kahn could merge with Earthrealm.
  • In order to lure the Earthrealm heroes into another tournament, he kidnapped Sonya Blade and Kano, and had the Tarkatan horde attack Shaolin temples.
  • Had his Shadow Priests resurrect Queen Sindel so Kahn could "reclaim" her in Earthrealm, forcefully merging Earthrealm with Outworld.
  • He also had Sindel brainwashed to be completely obedient to him.
  • When merging with Earthrealm, he immediately steals almost every soul from the realm.
  • Planned to collect the power of Blaze and bring about Armageddon.
  • In his non-canon arcade ending, Shao Kahn succeeds in getting the power of Blaze and merges every realm with Outworld (though he eventually gets bored over having nothing left to conquer).

Post-Armageddon[]

  • Betrayed his general and adviser Kotal Kahn, ambushing his legions, but keeping Kotal alive for Shang Tsung's experiments.
  • In the opening of MK9, he had just gotten the power of Blaze and is about to bring about Armageddon, and was seconds away from killing Raiden until the latter resets time.
  • When Kitana discovers Mileena and confronts Shao Kahn about it, he attempted to have her executed.
  • Dishonorably snuck up behind and snapped Kung Lao's neck.
  • Killed Shang Tsung and used his many souls to empower Sindel, leading to her killing nearly every Earthrealm warrior.
  • When Shao Kahn is summoned from the past, he attempts to kill Kotal Kahn and reclaim his throne.
  • Although he was enraged over Mileena's death at the hands of D'vorah, he later forgot about it when Kronika offered him an empire without Raiden.
    • Furthermore, Shao Kahn views Mileena as a daughter, but only out of fanaticism, seeing her as a pawn and replacement. This is evident when he told Kitana that if she had been as bold earlier, he wouldn't have needed Mileena. Despite appearing to get along with Mileena, his affection stems from admiration for her evil actions and sadistic nature.
  • Teamed up with Kronika, someone who wants to destroy the universe for her own selfish goals. Though he would later betray her after Sindel healed him.
  • When Shao Kahn starts losing to Kitana, he breaks Kotal Kahn's back, crippling him.
  • Attempted to use the Hourglass in order to remake the universe in his image along with Sindel.
  • Broke both of Liu Kang's legs just to spite him.
  • Although he falls in love with Sindel, and they get along without arguments, their relationship is based purely on fanaticism and a mutual taste for sadism.
  • Brutally crushed Geras' head into a bloody mess.
  • Decapitated Kotal Kahn offscreen.
  • Although he and Sindel were betrayed and killed by Shang Tsung in the near end, they both deserved it.
  • In the DC crossover, he fused with Darkseid, becoming Dark Kahn, and tried to take over both the Mortal Kombat and DC universes.
  • In his MK11 ending, he makes a timeline where only the strongest wins in Mortal Kombat tournaments but can't go out alive because Shao Kahn kills them by himself remains the strongest champion.

New Era[]

  • Reborn as a servant of Titan Shang Tsung as Dark Shao, he declares Armageddon, and he even tried to kill Raiden, New Era Shang Tsung and New Era Quan Chi.
