“ | Darkness is a tool. It's a tool that lies within everything and everyone, and it will be used correctly, unlike you or Void, who used it for their own gain. I am going to use it to stop this, finally. This everlasting existence... It'll never go away. The Darkness will always come back, within everyone and everything. Do you know what it's like? To always come back? Void figured it out, but he relished in it. That fool. He never got to experience what always was, and what always will be. I want nothing, because I've always seen it all. I've always experienced it all. You... will not stop me. | „ |

Shadow Sabre is a major antagonist in the Steve Cinematic Universe.
He serves as the secondary antagonist of Rainbow Quest, appearing as a major antagonist in Season 3, a cameo antagonist in Season 4, the deuteragonist-turned-final antagonist of Season 5, the main antagonist of Season 6 and the final antagonist of Season 7. He was also mentioned in Twisted Rainbow.
He is a dark reflection of FavreMySabre created by Corruption and Soul Steve through the use of Void Steve's own Darkness. Shadow Sabre's sole intention upon his creation was to utilize Sabre's anger and use it to break Sabre so he'd eventually give in to the Darkness. A selfish, deluded, Darkness-obsessed devotee, Shadow Sabre has, on several occasions, "teamed up" with Sabre to defeat a greater threat, only to backstab him in favor of pursuing his own goals of reverting the universe to nothing.
He is voiced by FavreMySabre, who also voiced Hypno Steve in the same series. He is based off his original counterpart.
Biography[]
This section is too long. Visit here for more details: Shadow Sabre's Synopsis on the Villains Fanon Wiki
What Makes Him Pure Evil?[]
- He has clear moral agency as well as personality despite being an entity made from negative energy, as he fully understands right from wrong, but chooses to fight for what he deems as "nothing". Even though he thinks he's in the right and that his actions are beneficial, it's ultimately a selfish desire as he admits to seeing the Darkness as a tool to utilize and manipulate for his schemes.
- Upon appearing in Sabre's mind, he absorbs his memories and uses them against him in an attempt to guilt-trip him over setting the Darkness loose, falling for Void Steve's manipulation and not being able to save Rainbow Steve, even blaming Sabre for "causing" his downfall and eventual death.
- Throughout the journey in Sabre's mind, Shadow repeatedly not only guilt-trips him, but also antagonizes others around him, including the Violet Steves, viewing what they deem to be love as warped compared to his twisted variation of love the Darkness attempts to give to the Steves.
- Not only does he try to break Sabre down, but he also attempt to trick him into giving up all hope and falling to the Darkness, whether or not he wanted Sabre to do it willingly or not, it didn't matter, as long as Sabre became part of their hive.
- He shared no care or gratitude towards his creator, Void Steve, as he seemingly planned on betraying and killing Void once he had accomplished his goal so that Shadow could get on with his own goals with the Darkness.
- By refusing to let Sabre out of his mind, he puts Sabre's body on autopilot, allowing the Darkness to use him as a puppet to slaughter many innocent Steves, ruining his trust in them and causing his friends to abandon him.
- Pretended to be defeated to give Sabre hope, only to rip it away from him when he manifested while Sabre was imprisoned.
- Forced Sabre to use the Shadow Sword, a weapon forged in Darkness and used by Sabre's lifeless husk to slaughter Steves to escape and rely on. Plus, since the Shadow Sword is an extension of both Sabre and Shadow, it would cause Shadow to follow Sabre wherever he went.
- Mocks and verbally torments Sabre over the death of the Great Librarian caused by him while possessed by the Darkness, and further manipulates him into using the Shadow Sword to get revenge on Void Steve and then take over as leader of the Darkness.
- Makes Sabre use the Shadow Sword's abilities, leading to him getting caught by a Yellow Steve and reported to the Rainbow Kingdom.
- Immediately after Sabre's undercover meeting with Void Steve, Shadow attempts to manipulate Sabre into admitting that he enjoyed murdering the Steves and causing chaos.
- Attempted to convince Sabre into murdering Yellow Steve and destroying everyone and everything in a Yellow Steve outpost.
- When Sabre goes to the Rainbow Kingdom to try and reason with the Violet Leader, Shadow openly expresses his doubt, and sure enough he proves to be right, as the Violet Leader doesn't believe Sabre, leading to Shadow gloating and continuing to try and manipulate Sabre into giving in to the Darkness.
- Claimed that Light Steve was jealous of the Shadow Sword's power and that Sabre shouldn't give it to him, but although Sabre didn't give him the sword, he didn't do it for greed or power, but to continue using it for good.
- When Sabre saw a chance at redeeming himself after regaining Light Steve's trust, Shadow tried to convince him that his redemption was only temporary and that's he'd fall back into the Darkness.
- Became giddy and excited when Sabre learned of a rumor that he killed Rainbow and Funny Orange Steve, and attempted to use his guilt and anger over the situation to try and manipulate him again into betraying his friends.
- Followed Sabre into the Time Dimension solely so he could watch him, Time and Elemental Steve argue.
- When Sabre decided to destroy the Shadow Sword after accidentally hurting Elemental Steve, Shadow panicked and furiously demanded Sabre to keep it, causing Sabre to finally lash out at Shadow and blame him for getting in his head.
- Belittled Sabre for thinking he could find redemption with Green Steve despite his damaged and vulnerable mental state.
- Tried one final time to convince Sabre to kill Light Steve, keep the Shadow Sword and rule over the Darkness, and angrily panicked when Sabre gave it up.
- Became enraged at Sabre the petty reason of locking him underground where he could do no harm.
- Throughout Sabre's journey to defeat the Demon Steves, Shadow Sabre put on a facade of a well-meaning, yet very condescending anti-hero who protected Sabre and put his differences aside for the greater good of the Steves to the point where Sabre trusted him enough to have a physical form, unknowingly granting Shadow what he wanted.
- When Sabre tasked Shadow with running an errand, Shadow stole the Shadow Sword and managed to kill Void Steve with in, but instantly turned on Sabre and revealed how much he resented him, and that everything he did was all an act due to being tied to Sabre and forced to follow him around, but no longer had to because he was now physical.
- Tried to use the Darkness to pollute the world until it was completely overrun with Darkness before destroying the world and erasing everything from existence, including himself, so that he could put an end to all suffering.
- Used the Shadow Sword to summon Dark Steve to him, brainwashing him in the process, much to Sabre's dismay as he had given Dark free will after having waited for months in the Darkness by himself.
- Tried to merge his core with Sabre's in an attempt to overwrite it and take his place.
- Rubbed the fact that he never wanted to change his ways in Sabre's face.
- Brought Sabre through his memories of previous events to remind him of what he's lost.
- Planned to kill Sabre upon seeing him locked in a machine and threatened to kill Time Steve to get to Sabre, and although he claimed that a tiny part of him didn't want to hurt Sabre because of how alike they are, it's a clear manipulation tactic, seeing as that he instantly goes from smugness to cowardice in a matter of seconds. His later actions completely contradict his statement.
- Begged for forgiveness when he was locked in the machine and broke the charade after seeing it wasn't going anywhere, all with a sadistic tone.
- Summoned the now brainwashed Dark Steve to free him from the machine and rubbed his victory in Sabre's face, all whilst mocking him for thinking he could redeem him and firmly denying the idea that he had any empathy or friendship with Sabre.
- Attempts to kill Sabre for good so he can replace him, not caring about the Darkness spreading across the land as the battle takes place.
- Furiously reprimands Dark Steve for turning against him, despite having praised him for coming to his aid moments ago, showing that he never once thought of Dark as an ally, merely a pawn.
- Tried and failed to escape Sabre's mind, his sadism and overconfidence turning into genuine fear when he realized he was completely trapped, and that the Shadow Sword's destruction wouldn't kill him.
- In his last moments, he showed absolutely no regret or remorse for his actions before being locked away, instead pleading with Sabre to not lock him away, showing that behind all his arrogance and power, Shadow was nothing but a coward at heart.
- As the universe started to fall apart thanks to the First Curse, Shadow Sabre manifested for the final time, only to taunt Sabre, likely so he could rub his victory in his face as his plans of reverting the universe to nothing were coming to fruition, even if they weren't by his hands.
- Although he appeared to show care for Sabre at several points, such as telling him to run from Void Steve in a panicked voice, Shadow ultimately revealed that all of his positive interactions with Sabre were nothing more than manipulation on his end. Additionally, he only kept Sabre alive to he could fuel his own plans, either to make Sabre join him in eradicating all life or to replace him as the only Sabre. He even laughed in his face when Sabre tried to reach out to any sign of good within him.
- While Shadow Sabre appeared genuinely shocked by Void Steve revealing he created him, it doesn't deter from everything he's done. Additionally, it's extremely likely Shadow knew that Void created him as he referred to him as his (and the Darkness') creator back when he first met Sabre. It's also likely that Void somehow expected Shadow not to know he created him, and was convinced when Shadow reacted in apparent shock.
- Even though a lot of his actions were psychological attacks, they still caused Sabre immense mental distress throughout the second half of Season 3 and 6.
Trivia[]
- Although it might seem like Shadow Sabre doesn't qualify as Pure Evil because of potential moral agency issues due to being created out of Darkness, Origin Steve revealed that the Darkness can easily be used for good, but Shadow Sabre actively chooses to be evil. Additionally, Origin stated that while everyone has the power to do good, for some people, their evil outweighs whatever good they have, referring to Shadow, showing that in Origin Steve's eyes, he's completely irredeemable. Overall, while he claims to not fight for good or evil, but rather "nothing", AKA, he fights for himself, showing that not only does he understand right from wrong, but that he doesn't at all care about anyone he forces his views upon and wants the destruction of all existence solely for his own benefit and selfish, nihilistic desires. He doesn't even care about the Darkness' like-minded desires since he views them all as tools.
- Shadow Sabre is one of two villains in Rainbow Quest to be Pure Evil, the other being The First Curse.
- If Shadow Sabre had been abandoned for good back in Season 3, he wouldn't qualify as Pure Evil.
