Secretary Guo is the main antagonist of the survival apocalypse novel, The Walking Dead: Typhoon, created by Wesley Chu.

He was the former Head Secretary of China and the Leader of The Beacon of Light, which is described as a “part military base, part refugee camp, part prison, and entirely downtrodden and miserable.”

What Makes Him Pure Evil?[]

  • While he had a wife at one point, we don’t see their relationship or if ever cared about him.
  • When the apocalypse started, Guo founded and lead The Beacon of Light, a large community housing three thousand survivors in China. Despite this, life in the community was not great, with everyone working from sun up to sun down, living in dreadful conditions while he and the higher guards lived luxuriously. People were forced to go on dangerous mission runs for supplies and if anyone talked back, disobeyed orders or didn’t hit their “quota” they’ll be sent out into back breaking fields.
    • While in The Beacon of Light, a person can get upgrades with their points from hitting their quotas, which include hot showers, better food and even a night in a private hotel for intimacy with someone, these upgrades are very shallow and aren’t portrayed as altruistic.
  • When told about the Typhoon horde coming straight for the community, he refuses Hengyen’s suggestions over evacuating the people, and pressures him to find an alternative, while demoting him and putting his Lieutenant position to Wangfa. During this, he also lies to the community about the army coming through and saving them.
  • He greenlit Wangfa’s suggestion of mass drafting “Vultures”-Unaffiliated survivors in China- to fight against the Horde, leading him responsible for the mass kidnapping of survivors across China and
  • When Chen Wenzhu abandons his position to be with his family, Guo manipulates Elena, who believes Chen left him for another woman, into leading an attack onto The Grove to enslave them and Zhu, lying to Elena about having the military send her to meet her family.
  • When the Typhoon horde comes in and all the survivors fight, it’s revealed Guo was secretly planning on never helping, having had Quotamaster Ming/Wilbur steal a lifetime worth of supplies before abandoning the community alongside his Allie’s, leaving all three thousand survivors and imprisoned Vultures to die, and when we last see The Beacon of Light, it was completely destroyed with only several survivors remaining.
  • After abandoning the Beacon of Light, Guo set up a camp at a silo with his remaining followers, ordering around people smugly and when confronted by Hengyen and a vengeful group of survivors, cowardly attempts to shift blame and make false promises.
  • Despite his claims over protecting “The Last Revolution” and keeping China’s image alive, all his rhetoric is simply self serving manipulations to keep himself clinging to power, and was willing to abandon all his people to die for his own safety and ego.

Trivia[]

  • He, alongside Wangfa, are the only two The Walking Dead Pure Evils from the official novels.
