So you're this planet's great warrior. Mmm... You have such a beautiful world, filled with an abundance of life. Savory. My master grows hungry. Give me the Transwarp Key, and he will spare your home.
~ Scourge’s introductory speech to Apelinq moments before fighting and killing him.
I enjoy that look of confusion... when an inferior being meets a higher power.
~ Scourge talking to Optimus Prime.

Scourge is the main antagonist of the 2023 sci-fi action film Transformers: Rise of the Beasts, the second installment of the rebooted continuity of the Transformers live-action film series.

He is a Cybertronian trophy hunter, the leader of the Terrorcons, and the main Herald of Unicron. In 1994, Scourge is dispatched by Unicron to find where Optimus Prime and his Autobots are hiding in the Earth, planning to bring his master to the Earth through the Transwarp key so that Unicron can consume it, just like he ate Scourge's home planet. He is Mirage, Optimus Primal and Noah Diaz's arch-nemesis and Optimus Prime's second archenemy (after Megatron).

He was voiced by Peter Dinklage. In the film's Japanese dub, he was voiced by Nobuo Tobita, who also voiced Major in Hellsing and Brajira of the Messiah in Tensou Sentai Goseiger.

What Makes Him Pure Evil?[]

  • Prior to the events of the film, he willingly sold out his soul to Unicron for the sake of power. Reveling at the being he has become, he gleefully unleashed Unicron onto his home planet and various other planets filled with life.
  • While he appears to be loyal to Unicron, it is mainly because of bloodlust and having a superior god-complex.
  • He killed several Cybertronians (such as the Maximals, Autobots, Wreckers, Cybertron Elite Guards, Cybertronian Mercenaries, Predacons and Decepticons), keeping their insignias over his shoulder as trophies.
  • He laid waste over the Maximal planet to obtain the Transwarp Key. This caused Apelinq to sacrifice himself to stall Scourge and the Terrorcors enough to allow his fellow Maximals escape with the key to the Earth. Scourge subsequently kills him without mercy, tearing Apelinq's insignia off his corpse and adding it to his collection of insignias.
  • He murders a security guard at a museum by blowing up the spot he was at into smithereens.
  • He attempts to kill Optimus Prime to obtain the Transwarp Key, but due to Bumblebee's intervention, Scourge opts to kill Bumblebee instead.
    • Although Bumblebee is ultimately revived at the climax of the film, Scourge's act of taking off his Emblem heavily indicates that Scourge's desire for Bumblebee's demise was genuine.
  • While he is tortured by Unicron for only retrieving half of the Transwarp Key, it is not played for sympathy due to having killed Bumblebee only minutes before.
  • As the Terrorcons search for the other Transwarp Key's half in Cusco, Perú, Scourge sends his Freezer drones to hunt down Noah Diaz and Elena Wallace, the two human allies of the Autobots.
  • In the midst of fighting the Autobots in an attempt to kill Optimus once more, he chooses to infect Airazor with Unicron's dark energy (assumed Dark Energon) for intervening. This provides a distraction that lets him locate the Transwarp Key hidden in a village by the Maximals and their friends. This act also forces Optimus Primal to mercy-kill Airazor as she was corrupted by Unicron's energy.
  • He summons Unicron to the Earth with the completed Transwarp Key, setting into motion the preparations for the planet to be consumed by his master.
  • He took Noah hostage as his forces fought against the Autobots and the Maximals while sending a Freezer after Elena.
  • He incapacitates Mirage when attempting to kill Noah, forcing the former to transform into a suit for the latter to wear to defeat Scourge.
  • He targets a revived Bumblebee out of spite for him not staying dead as he thought before, but accidentally shoots his fellow Terrorcon teammate, Nightbird, while trying to shoot Bumblebee. He shows no remorse over doing so and continues to fight.
  • While clashing with Optimus, Scourge requests Unicron to deploy the Predacon reinforcements to deal with the Maximals and Autobots.
  • He spitefully fires his cannon at the control panel summoning Unicron to ensure that his failsafe is unable be deactivated, thus keeping the portal open.
  • Though Optimus Prime grants him a brutal demise and end, it is ultimately played for satisfaction due to Scourge's bloodthirsty fanaticism towards Unicron, as well as his relentless sadism in destroying and oppressing all forms of life.
  • His actions ultimately forced Optimus Prime to destroy the Transwarp Key, preventing Unicron from entering and consuming the Earth, and saving humanity. Unfortunately, this also prevented the Autobots from ever returning home to Cybertron (Unicron's archnemesis and twin brother, Primus), or at least for the foreseeable future.

Trivia[]

  • Scourge is similar to Bayverse Lockdown, who also serves under a master and his creators from Age of Extinction. This makes him the second main villain to serve under someone in the live-action Transformers film series.
    • Scourge steals Insignias, while Lockdown steals sparks as their own trophies after killing the Cybertronians (either Autobots or Decepticons).
    • To date, he is perhaps the only Transformers villain that goes by the name of Scourge to be Pure Evil.
  • This is, alongside his TFI Creations incarnation, one of two incarnations of Scourge to be Pure Evil.
  • His Paramount + advertising counterpart does not qualify as Pure Evil due to being too comedic and being a parody of the film version.
