Nah, it's fine. I'm kind of a demon. But if there were real demons beside me, I'd like to try to talk a little with them. Now that'd be nice.
~ Ryuunosuke Uryuu

Ryuunosuke Uryuu is a major antagonist from the light novel and anime series Fate/Zero.

He is a serial killer and the Master of Caster during the Fourth Holy Grail War. Unlike the other Masters, however, he has no interest whatsoever in obtaining the Grail and merely wishes to use Caster as a tool for his killing spree. He serves as the main antagonist of the first season of the anime (as well as the corresponding novels).

He is voiced in Japanese by Akira Ishida (who also voiced Fyodor Dostoyevsky in Bungo Stray Dogs, Keera L. Greenwood in How Not to Summon a Demon Lord and Gabriel Miller in Sword Art Online) and by Johnny Yong Bosch in the English dub.

What Makes Him Pure Evil?[]

  • Is a serial killer who kills for pure amusement. Primarily targets young women and children.
  • Kills several families and uses their blood to create the servant summoning circle, intending to summon a demon.
  • Summons Gilles de Rais, who was a prolific serial killer, as a Caster-class Servant which is compatible with him.
  • Kills a family with magical potential, excluding a young boy, which he later watches dying at the hands of Caster to seal the bond.
  • Caster's beliefs, madness and methods, enthrall Ryuunosuke, who devotes himself to being Caster's follower should he show him cooler ways to kill people.
  • Although he got along with his Servant, this is merely a twisted obsession, as Caster is the only one who fullfills his sadism and shows him many delightful ways of killing people.
  • Unleashes a bloodbath during the Fourth Holy Grail War, supposedly under Caster's instructions regarding Saber, but actually to satisfy his own bloodlust. He and Caster kidnap, torture and murder many civilians.
  • Lives for nothing more than pure destruction, carnage, violence and death.
  • Supports Caster when he decides to go after Arturia, who is mistaken for Jeanne d'Arc by Gilles.
  • Kidnaps and murders children with the help of a magical item given by his Servant. In the anime, one group of children is saved by Rin, who is nearly killed saving a friend of hers as well as several other children. In the light novel, Rin fails to save anyone.
  • When it becomes clear that Caster and his Master are only targeting innocent people, Risei Kotomine informs all active Masters that the Holy Grail War is to be "put on hold" until Caster is eliminated. The Master who kills him will also receive an extra command spell. But, undeterred by the manhunt, Caster and Ryuunosuke keep on hunting down children and causing fear throughout the community.
  • He grotesquely decorates his lair with the corpses of his and Caster's victims.
  • After Caster and Ryuunosuke find their lair destroyed by Rider's fire, the latter becomes upset and shares his philosophy that God must be somewhat malicious to make the world with them in it, as he believes that God likely enjoys displays of violence, gore and evil actions. This firmly wins Caster over, as he hails Ryuunosuke as a brilliant philosopher and they resolve to perform a grand spectacle to amuse God. They summoned Gigantic Horror, with the intentions of committing countless atrocities.
  • When Gigantic Horror was summoned, Ryuunosuke becomes more and more excited to see other Servants come to challenge it and fail due to its constant regeneration, and how it swallowed a fighter jet with ease. Ryuunosuke begins a monologue in which he states that he is happy he won't have to go out of his way to commit murders anymore, as he can just watch Caster's monsters do it for him in so many thrilling ways.
  • In his final moments, after getting shot by Kiritsugu Emiya, Ryuunosuke felt no remorse for any of his crimes and was instead delighted by experiencing his own death, before a headshot ended his life.
