Richard K. Straker is the main antagonist of Tobe Hooper's 1979 horror miniseries Salem's Lot, the first screen adaptation of the 1975 novel of the same name from Stephen King. He is master vampire Kurt Barlow's mortal servant, who tries to help his master infect the town of Jerusalem's Lot into vampires.

He was portrayed by the late James Mason.

What Makes Him Pure Evil?[]

In General[]

  • Unlike his master Barlow, who is a Generic Doomsday villain who lacks much characterization, Straker has a clear personality and sadism that makes him stand out.
  • There is no concrete proof that Straker genuinely cares for his master, rather, he fanatically worships his master for what he represents.
  • Straker was implied to have sacrificed many children in the past.

Salem's Lot (1979)[]

  • Sacrificed Ralphie Glick in a satanic ritual, eventually presenting him to Barlow.
  • Captured Susan Norton and Mark Petrie, sacrificing Susan for Barlow while Mark escapes.
  • Because of his actions, Barlow was able to infect the entire town of Salem`s Lot.
  • Mocked Father Callahan that he is no match for his master Barlow.
  • Grabbed Dr. Bill Norton and speared him onto the wall with antlers.
  • Though he was shot to death by Ben Mears, Straker deserved it.
